With all the new parents lately and several who have been parents for some time, I figured this could be a fun place to talk about kids and parenting stuff.

I know Im missing a bunch more. Feel free to tag others.

My daughter is getting another tooth. Her 7th. I see it at the gum. The last few nights have been brutal. I now know why parents in the day gave them rum. Weve had such little sleep that all I can do is stare at my screen at work.

I do not miss the days of teething, but you'll be through it faster than expected.

Also, just drink all the rum yourself :)

Teething is the worst. Honestly that's the worst point, it's all downhill from there.

Today is my son's birthday. We're having his party Saturday. 6 years old.

I kind of did that the other day lol but regretted it when she woke up screaming around midnight because I was even more tired from being buzzed.

My son just accepted his admission to COLLEGE. I am flabbergasted because Im not old enough to have a kid in college. Am I? Lol

Some people here may remember Ive mentioned some of his challenges, including ASD and ADHD. Im so, so proud of him. He didnt get his first choice, but I think it might be the best choice.

My daughter will be in high school next year. Im super proud of her too, for different reasons.

To those of you just starting this journey, all the bumps along the way are the reminders of what makes us strong. You have so much to look forward to!

Wow amazing! Congrats to them both. You must be a proud momma. Time flies so fast. Even with how hard things are, I treasure this time. One day I wont be able to hold her and rock her the way I do.

Finally got her to fall asleep after a restless evening. She's right beside me as I type this. I'm scared to put her in her bassinet because she'll wake right up.

So maybe I am looking back with rose tinted glasses or whatever, but the Terrible Twos, to my memory, werent as bad as the current Four. >_> I mean in some ways its nice that my daughter is more conversational and independent etc, but my goodness she gets more stubborn and rebels against authority more every day.

Is she teething? The other day mine didnt take her nap either. But shes grouchy. Agreed its not too bad but its more so exhausting for you. Nap time is a break for us.

Oh man. I wonder how my girl will be. Shes already super sassy at 1 and very demanding. The funniest is when she finds my phone and grabs it. She knows I dont like her having it so Ill extend my hand and ask her to give it back. She takes my hand and pushes it away from her and laughs at me lol

Ok am I just super anal? Our nanny comes at 7:30 every morning. I woke up feeling really terrible from the lack of sleep and had a bad migraine. To the point where my vision was blurred. I am usually the one to get my daughter when she wakes up.

She woke up at 7 and my husband took her. He had a meeting at 7:30. Well he left my daughter downstairs alone in front of the TV while he went up to join his meeting a few minutes before. The nanny has a key so she came in and just found my daughter walking around by herself. I would have rather he told me so I can go down, or he just take her on his lap for a couple of minutes than just leave her by herself. But he thinks Im being a nag.

This topic is a reminder to me that I am 30 and childless.

I almost had a baby girl five years ago, but she died at 5 months pregnant.

I think about her every now and then.

My brother in law just tore up his knee playing basketball with my nephews friends at my son's bday party. This is what happens when old people try to relive their glory days.

a little at odds with my wife over some things because every time he spits up or has a fussy evening shes convinced its some food sensitivity and is now avoiding: dairy, soy, wheat, nuts, bananas, onions, garlic, and cruciferous vegetables (and I think more I cant remember), and is scrutinizing every poop for any level of discrepancy between what is normal

my thought is hes happy 90% of the time, he loves playing and smiling, he just hates going to sleep and is cranky every night when he realizes the lights are dimming

He loves tummy time now and is right on the verge of putting everything together to crawl, I think. Really good head control, interest in reaching out to things (like our cats!) and has a good idea of how to move himself around with leaning towards things he wants

This topic is a reminder to me that I am 30 and childless.

I almost had a baby girl five years ago, but she died at 5 months pregnant.

I think about her every now and then.

Im so sorry for your loss. Thats so heartbreaking.

If it helps at all, I my daughter when I was almost 36 and my husband will be 50 this year. Age is just a number. Most people I know who are having kids are having them in their mid to late 30s

Im with you. Babies spit up and its not always some direct explanation. They have little tummies that are still developing. It gets better with time.

Today my daughter fell off the side of the couch on the hardwood floor. A good 2.5 foot fall and fell on her head. She is crazy fast and climbing everything and normally knows how to get down the side (but we are around and help) but she went so fast I didnt have time to get to her.

She got a mark on her forehead. We canceled our Mothers Day plans and just stayed home. I nearly took her to urgent care but my husband helped calm me down and she was walking and acting fine after. I cried a shit ton because I felt like it was my fault.

Ah yeah, happy mothers day Cleo and any other moms in here. I made the cutoff by 7 minutes.

If it makes you feel better, my sister (an ER doc) reacted the same way over a similar situation with my nephew when he was about 2.5

This was my experience as well. We thought we dodged a bullet because 2 years old was completely fine. But nope, instead we got terrible 4.

He's fine now. A bit defiant, but I'm trying to work on that with positive and negative reinforcement.

Aww poor thing. Shes fallen off the couch at 5 months as well but it was a lot couch and carpeted. This time her head literally bounced on the floor. It was terrifying

Im worried about what terrible twos will be like. Shes already very opinionated and screams any time she doesnt get her way or we walk away from her line of sight for a second. We are doing our best not to give in and just let her scream it out but if this is what its like at 1 then Im scared. Like she will scream and tantrum for anything minor like a toy not doing what she wants it to do.

his 6 month wellness isnt for a month so she wanted to check in on possible allergens. She tried some dairy last week and hes been super squirmy and not sleeping well. (fwiw I was on board with the dairy sensitivity, just not every other food). Thankfully the doctor was really helpful, suggested she reintroduce most foods (besides dairy and soy) and gave us some samples of hypoallergenic formula (which we had used in the past but obviously is harder to find now). My wife had also been worried he had an ear infection and diaper rash and they gave him a thorough inspection to put her mind at ease. Hoping things calm down soon

Is he maybe on the verge of crawling? Or did he learn a new skill like rolling both ways? Anytime my girl learned something new, it would affect her sleep. Like her little brain needed time to process it all.

Also I mean this in the most gentle way, but does your wife have a lot of anxiety in general about your son? Might be worth getting checked for postpartum anxiety (PPA). I ended up with postpartum panic disorder around 4 months in. Our chemical makeup can really go through a rollercoaster after birth.

Oh and it can also be the start of teething. Has he been drooling or chewing on things? My daughter had symptoms about a month before the tooth actually cut through the gum.

He seems on the verge of teething but has drooled a lot constantly since like 2 months, he has GERD and that can be a symptom

Ive encouraged her to talk to her doctor about anxiety bc shes also not working rn and doesnt get a break. That definitely seems like part of it

Yes she should definitely talk to her doctor. I was placed on medication a few months and it made a world of difference for me.

Why is she not getting any breaks though? When youre done with work, do you take over for a bit? I was on maternity leave and had her most of the day but when my husband was done we split the evening together. And then weekends was split as well. A lot of women burn themselves out thinking that because they arent working that means they need to do all the childcare. But it is full time job. I found it more difficult than my desk job even.

Definitely part of it too, although we have gotten out for a few concerts together while grandma watches

My daughter is starting to say mama and dada more. When I walk away from her shell yell mama! it melts me. Shes starting to listen more. She grabbed my cell phone yesterday and normally refuses to give it back but I called her name and she came round and handed it back when I asked her. I also asked for a hug and she came running to my arms. Its so surreal to see this shift where she suddenly understands words like that.

In which I can never post in this general

My little guy was up all night with a stuffy nose. I laid with him most of the night but when I tried to sneak back into my own bed he flipped I've been sick all week with a swollen throat so this is night number 4 Ive had little to no sleep.

My daughter will be 2 in just over 3 months. I know a lot of parents like to say their kids are advanced for their age, but I really do think my daughter is. She started putting together short sentences several months ago among other things. My gf teaches kindergarten, and she said our daughter does stuff that some of her kindergartners struggle with.

hey folks... Dad of two boys ages 6 and 4. Glad I'm coming out of that real young phase of kids which tbh, I dont/didnt enjoy as much as I do now that they're older. I coach them in sports, etc.

Just waiting for that phase when they start to sleep in a bit

My eldest is pretty smart for a six year old, very good with tech, good mental acuity and learns quickly and also pretty social, last school report we received had him above the national average (UK) in key areas for his age group which was nice to see. Lacks some emotional control as expected for his age, though that does creep into his ability to try things sometimes. He's gotten so used to being good at certain things, that he gets emotional / sad if he can't do new things first try. I know he can do it, but he gets himself into a rut.

Anyway, I was little worried that, due to the circumstances surrounding my youngest's growth and interaction, that he'd suffer for it in the long run. My second son was essentially a "Covid-Kid", missed out on a lot of social interaction his older brother had due to lockdowns and restrictions. He started nursery not too long ago though, and he's a hell of a lot smarter than I give him credit for. He's also picked up a lot in his sessions at nursery and his vocabulary is impressive right now too.

They're both growing up pretty good. My youngest is a bit of demon with the attitude though. Very shout heavy, can use words (not perfectly) to convey what he needs but tends to shout and scream a lot anyway lol. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't piss me off a little, but it is what it is. Was hard to get used to at first because his older brother was a really quiet kid growing up.

My oldest is going into his 3rd year of hockey this fall. Also in his 3rd year of soccer. Youngest in his first year of soccer.

You guys should give your kids ice cream for dinner. Then when all the other kids are together talking about how much their parents stink because they don't let them have ice cream for dinner your kid will realize that you are awesome.

I'm Canadian so it's all hockey up here. He plays with his good friends, etc. He's sports obsessed and will likely try everything at one point. Wants to do baseball next summer. Likes to hit golf balls, etc.
