It is the exact same game because it's intended to be backwards compatible with OW1

You need OW2 to play the OW2 content but all the OW1 content is still there and you can use OW2 to play with OW1 players.

Yeah, I'm a big overwatch fan, but this is not helping bring any casual players or people who used to play. blizzard has to do way more otherwise this shit will die. im on record from the jump saying "overwatch 2" is basically just a graphics mod.

i dunno, it is more overwatch but people really undersell all the changes the game made. several heroes got reworked (especially tanks), the three roles have unique passives to differentiate them, push is much different than 2cp, and we have a good amount of new maps just in beta and we're expected to have multiple new heroes

with overwatch being so old i don't really mind that 2 is so similar since it's a refreshing change after so long, and you don't have to pay for the pvp if you own the original anyways so it's pretty hard for me to care

i agree that role queue is lame but it's clear that the majority favors it. if you actually play competitive without role queue the mode is pretty dead and like 3200 is top 500

meanwhile quick play classic, quick play without role queue, is still very active because unsurprisingly the casuals are playing the casual modes and not the one with rating on the line

I like the fact that with all that criticism, he still makes a dig at Valorant at the end lol. Does Dunkey hold a grudge against Riot Games?

I think it depends which game you join. Something like PSO2.

They didn't change much or even add single character since they announced OW2 so all the reworks and little tweaks really could have just been rolled out over that period of time

everything is changing. there won't be any separate OW1. people who don't buy it just don't get the pve stuff

I'm reminded that at one point in time, years ago, that I was starting to play more Paladins than Overwatch (Legendary Edition no less).

The idea that I have to buy the game *again* just to access an over-glorified patch likely means my time with OW is over because I can't justify the price or time anymore.

I like Dunkey because he acknowledges the glory that was OW1. Playing OW2 pvp beta and it really is not a big enough difference to put a 2 in the title. However, that is entirely the point. They didn't want to create a brand new PvP, they wanted to just add some adjustments. OW2 PvP is free for every OW1 owner. I put it in bold because some people can't read. It is meant to be an extension of OW1 PvP.

Disappointed because they ignorantly thought the PvP would be a whole new revamped game. In terms of how it plays is amazing. Much more fluid and fun Overwatch experience from what OW1 became with all the shileds and cc.

The entirety of it, or just the PVP bits? Because even with OW1 I was mostly just playing the Archives after awhile and rarely queued for anything else aside from the occasional Arcade match (and even then it was always for the lol modes like the ones with double health/ult charge or moon-jumping).

As much as they originally pushed it as a competitive game, I never quite enjoyed the PVP in Overwatch compared to other class shooters.

And before someone else mentions it, yes, I was aware that unlocks from 1 would carry over to 2, so I never had any qualms about that. My pet peeve was always how it seemed like an interesting universe to explore, but we were stuck playing essentially "war games" all day.

If I'm getting the PVE stuff from OW2 for free as well, that drastically changes things.

I really dug the vibe in the first trailer and then there was, like, no actual plot to follow.

Blizz realized the strength of the game is the waifus so built OW2 around PvE to give the people what they want.

Don't get me wrong, I knew there would be PVP going into it, I was just expecting more of a split with PVE as opposed to it being non-existent until they finally gave us the Archives.

overwatch is a cursed game. this mmo holy-trinity bullshit that blizzard forces into every game was a poison pill. it will never, ever be balanced properly, it's impossible. the characters play too differently from one another, with vastly differing skill floors/ceilings/value-for-effort, and too many of them are balanced around binary outcomes. there is no amount of numbers-tweaking nor ruleset/format changing that will make a viable competitive game out of this horsepile.

the playerbase is fucking clueless and doesn't even seem to hear themselves shouting contradictions at the devs. these players, they still want two tanks, but they want someone else to play those tanks, but they also want tanks to be nerfed and to not dictate the meta, teehee~! yeah, good luck, assholes.

equally annoying are the amount of people who act like role queue is forced into every single mode instead of just quick-play and competitive. there's like, 12 other game modes, unironically, where you can pick whoever you want, including quick play classic which is literally just 2016-2019 overwatch and is available 24/7 rather than being on a rotation like the other arcade modes. i don't really get why this is blown up so much, the only explanation i can think of is people are genuinely talking out of their asses and haven't taken 30 seconds to look up if overwatch has modes that didn't add role lock.

It is built more from a MOBA formula. Those games because of that reason will also never be balanced despite characters having significantly less options for moves they can preform. The key with these types of games is constant balancing. Not as an end all way to make the game completely balanced, but by keeping the game fresh by having a rotating set of characters in the meta and maybe having those characters feel different each time. One of the reasons games like League of Legends has been so successful is because they make drastic changes regularly. Something that Overwatch has been completely afraid to do. And it got worse as time went on as they seemed to completely abandon balance changes in favor of OW2 which even didn't change that drastically compared to the amount of time it took away from OW1.

All OW1 ever needed was a good shake up every now and then.

Blizzard really looked at Fifa and thought, "Hey, why aren't we doing that?"

5v5 seems like a bad change tbh and everything they've done just screams that they don't have faith in their product. Real shame.

I always thought this but playing the OW2 beta just confirmed it for me.

The fundamental issues that people have with Overwatch 1 are still there.

It is an expansion straight up but for whatever reason they are marketing it as a sequel. Maybe if they ever come out with the pve content they can try to sell it as a sequel.

I played both the other night and the timing/flow of each game is definitely different. But it feels like a really big patch.
