I had been hyped for another Tango Gameworks game but not hyped enough to play it before I finished Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West

thoughts on it? Im finding the complaints about it are valid (open world fatigue, not-great combat), but Im really enjoying the presentation, the attention to detail, and the story. Im also generally a sucker for collectathons and this is certainly that

tango certainly knows how to give a game style at least

I got it for $40 and I think its worth at least that much. The gameplay wasnt a fault at all. Maybe the lack of versatility would be the right complaint since the gameplay itself was pretty fun.

Collectathon part of the game is literally the main focus of the entire game and toward the end it got old and made me want to rush to the end. The side quests started off pretty good, but also got old since they were short. The story was okay nothing bad or too exciting. The characters were mostly likable and the music and graphics were pretty great. I enjoy the enemies even though most of them were slender man variants. I liked the ghost characters you interact with also. I mean theres yokai all over and you can talk telepathically to dogs and cats which is pretty cute. Even the shop keepers are these yokai cats.

Definitely like all the different yokai and stuff.

but so far combat-wise every group of enemies is the exact same strategy, just kite around them and charge the fireball; when that runs out charge the comparatively super weak wind. Ive found the water blade is basically useless

Ive unlocked almost the whole weapon wheel at this point and talismans seem too rare to be worthwhile (or you have to keep buying them for a high price)

just feels like with all the magical elements they could have done more to make combat interesting

I agree. It seems like they watered the game down for a potential sequel. The studio could have done way better.

the platforming doesnt feel good imo

doesn't feel like theres any real pattern between what you can and cant pull yourself up on

movement is also very floaty which makes jumps not work far too oftenlike if youre going over the peak of a roof or something, at the peak youll catch air like you were going off a ramp, then the game doesnt register your jump

its been way more frustrating than it should be and Ive been saving towards the summon tengu skill (automatically summons a grapple point) to help mitigate this

That said, Im finding the collection and sidequests strangely addiction and Im about 25% done

Weirdly, I think the game this is reminding me the most of is de Blob

where a big chunk of the gameplay is short platforming challenges mostly across buildings

Damn every new enemy type is just an even more tedious damage sponge

Yep, I bought it on Steam and enjoyed it, for the most part. The story was interesting and I liked the characters.

The huge open world did start to get kind of boring as the game went on though. The mystique of a spooky, fog covered, Tokyo wore off after a while and it was just like okay, I'm ready for this story to finish lol.

It's probably my favorite game from this year so far.

Gotta say, the psychological horror sequences they do here are so fucking cool, just as they were in the evil within games
