I'm a big fan of Raw Danger though it's janky af.

Anyone played DR4? I've read about its interesting publication history and that it was basically a game that came out 2 generations too late, but I wonder if it's still ironically enjoyable at least.

Yea and sadly no, its awful. I really enjoyed the first two Disaster Report games and had been looking forward to this one since before it was cancelled n 2011 and even giving it the benefit of the doubt, I enjoyed very little about it.

Theres no overarching plot, just lots of random encounters with different groups of people. The tone is all over the place with characters acting like cartoon characters and the resolution to incredibly serious events being treated like a joke. Theres barely any action either, outside of the initial earthquake, there are very few set pieces, mostly burning buildings or buildings falling down. Kinda felt like they were afraid of making a cheesy action game like before.

Theres some fun in playing your character like a horrible monster, but it doesnt affect anything. The only real choices are a few near the end that are binary about where to go. Oh and the resolution to a few of the stories arent covered in the main game but in the epilogue DLC set six months later.

Heres hoping the fifth game is better.

The game is complete garbage. The store page on PSN says that "The fellow survivors you meet and crucial decisions you make will affect the course of your experience and ultimately determine how your journey through this crisis will end." which is a complete lie as the game is 99% linear with the only actual choice being near the end of the game.

There's supposed to be survival mechanics, with hunger, thirst, and bladder gauges but none of them actually do anything, so you can finish the entire game without paying attention to any of them. There's also a point system where it tracks how moral and immoral you have been throughout your journey. This also does absolutely nothing, and some of the ways to add more points to either side make absolutely no sense.

And finally, as Jackman said above, some of the ending is tacked on as a DLC so you have to pay another $8 to find out what happens later. Not only that but it didn't save my appearance from the main game and changed my character's hair color for no reason.

very much so. one gobsmackingly terrible development in particular in this vein almost jettisons the whole thing.

It's a shame City Shrouded in Shadow never came out of Japan. I enjoyed that far more, despite not being able to speak or read Japanese.
