See: the complete redemption of the Bush administration on the "left", and McCain & Cheney getting rejected from the right, with even Romney targeted as a moderate RINO while remaining the same conservative he's always been, still largely voting with the party (which itself has become more of a political requirement than ever before).

Bernie's not an extremist (and at this point, when people use "far left" perjoratively it is not really referring to Bernie anymore - he isn't mean enough and actually cares about poor people) but he isn't running the party either. The centrist leadership allow the far left to run things as long as the centrists can protect the rich and corporations and keep their high offices and titles. That's their implicit deal.

More accurately, their view on the left is formed entirely on what the right tells them about the left, which is how you get the groomer discourse. Nobody's actually listening to the left here, and when engaged with, they are primed for offense. That's what labelling everything as woke sjw shit is meant to do and you can see this from their gut reactions to media featuring minority members or any time a woman asserts dominance over a man.

Using my brother as an example he can't even handle sarcastic references to feminism in comedy without taking it as a serious threat. In literally Taskmaster NZ there was a prize task for "best green thing", and one woman brought a statue of the Green M&M lady and touted it up as a feminist icon and my brother took it seriously, scoffing how there's always gotta be a feminist on the shows. Then a guy brought out a female member of the Green Party and an opponent knocked it down as dehumanizing to bring a women as a "best thing" and my brother went livid at how there's nothing dehumanizing about calling people a thing. Like holy crap dude it's a comedy show, you've seen plenty episodes where contestants try to make up significance or drag their rivals down on any technicality they can grasp, why are you taking this to be serious feminist debate??? Literally a green m&m statue holy shit man.

Shang-Chi as well of course he had to scoff at Shang-Chi mentioning an experience dealing with racist bullies, reactively spouting "oh yeah sure THAT really happened"....... it's a fictional movie with magic dragons god dammit. Watching any media with my brother is an absolute minefield since you never know when when he's gonna get triggered by any hints of social progressivism.

it's unreal the way they complain about outrage culture while completely steeped in every form of media hell bent on riling themselves up about how white men are under attack (literally what was being said in a podcast he was listening to first thing in the morning while visiting) and it leaves them constantly on-edge
