well after my speculation on the new passive it was pretty underwhelming. just more of the same stats. oh well. powerful item though.

stage 5 was pretty tough, i died horribly my first few times because i had gotten used to how easy the first four stages are with powerups, had to actually make sure i had a good build and not get greedy. really survive by the skin of your teeth a lot in the first 15 minutes.

I have decided to try my hand at farming eggs on Pugnala. Using the Gold Fever arcana makes it pretty free to get 70-100k gold if you use stone mask, and using the item attract one makes getting the evolved lancet (And potentially evolved Laurel) to get a few eggs (12, I think it is?) off enemies too. So easy 20 eggs per 15 minutes minimum. And once I get enough eggs that the greed scaling starts taking off, it'll go even faster because the scaling fuels itself thanks to being able to buy eggs with gold

Dunno how far I'll take it (Currently at about 250), but it's kinda silly and honestly Pugnala is the strongest non-secret character anyways IMO between having the best weapon and infinite scaling might per level

My gold fevers are so inconsistent. Sometimes they go absolutely hog wild with 20k+ in a single burst and sometimes they don't even make it to four digits. Seems entirely dependent on what wave is active when I get the pick-up. Is there any trick to making them more consistent beyond playing on the maps that give you constant gold pick-ups to fuel it?

Nope.

Which makes me realize that I didn't specify that I'm doing it on Moongolow, because those pot-plant-whatever things drop coins that help fuel it (So I can start one basically immediately and then potentially sustain it for the entire run non-stop) and because it has extra enemies at the end that drop eggs.

Bone Zone would probably work well for the same reason, but is a lot more difficult to survive and doesn't have the free egg drops towards the end. There's probably a breakpoint where the increased gold generation makes it better though, if you're looking to go super hard and optimize.

Ive been doing the Pugnala egg grind here and there too. Up to about 715 currently. Almost at the point where Bone Zone is starting to become more efficient than Moonglow, getting roughly 40 eggs per run there.

And yeah, once you hit around 500 eggs or so, you have to start managing your exp carefully, because you don't actually want to max out any of your other weapons until you evolve the guns and the cat. Kinda wish I had unlimited skips, or wish there was an option to pick gold at any level.

I'm not actually using the cats, though I certainly would if I were on Bone Zone instead, or maybe if my greed were higher.

This does seem like a problem that the new option to limit your max weapon slots can solve though - I keep mine limited to 4, and just pick up Water and one of Lancet/Laurel (Then pick up the other after I've evolved guns) with liberal use of skip/banish. I don't actually upgrade Laurel though, just get it to level 8.

I could use cats instead of water with otherwise exactly the same strat probably, but I wonder if the exp loss there (= fewer bags once maxed) is offset by the gold gain from the cats, or if there's a Greed threshold that makes it good? It's not like I'm particularly scrambling for levels unless I try it in Hurry mode though.

The level up bags don't contribute much to your overall gold total at that point, you gain much more by keeping your Gold Rush active, which the cats help with a lot. I'll have to try a run with the weapon slots maxed at 3 though, and see how that goes.

Is the extra gold from the evolved cats at all noticable itself? I have no issues keeping gold rush active for the entire run (Occasionally I'll lose it on the crab wave at 10 minutes, but that's before I can evolve anyways), so if that's the only reason to go for them, then meh

I havent honestly compared a run with cat vs without, so I cant say for sure. I do know that it makes it so I can just stand still for the last 15 minutes of Bone Zone and rack up money though, which is nice.

New update coming Thursday!

Patch 0.8.0 - ETA July 7th

Contains 3 new achievements and:
- new version of Stage 5. Will revert to the previous version once successfully completed
- final roadmap relic with a new game mechanic
- 1 new arcana

Extra:
- 1 minor relic to view enemies data from the main menu (the list will be updated with more data and details as we get closer to v1.0)

Tweaks:
- Updated some graphics
- Added a visual indicator of how many skins are available per character
- Added option to always pick Coin Bag or Floor Chicken when leveling up after maxing out all weapons
- Added visual reminders for Banished items
- Obtained unlocks can be filtered out from the list
- Crimson Shroud's retaliation damage now heavily damages some special enemies

Bugfixes:
- "Reach minute 31" arcanas not unlocking under certain situations
- Post-Moongolow stage crashing with certain characters

I had a run of Dairy Plant tonight where I got the evolved Lancet and Laurel and proceeded to kill Death... except I killed him too fast and the run ended at like 30:57, causing me to miss out on the achievement for lasting 31 minutes. Whoops!
