Like if they added a no P2W progression server that started either with RSC or the launch of RS2, but with actual anti-bot / multi-box detection and enforcement.

Just play Old School Runescape. Other than bonds (which you can buy with real money to either use for membership or trade with other players for in game money) there isn't any P2W bullshit that Runescape 3 has.

Botting is still an issue but not nearly as noticeable as it was in the past.

Can't play OSRS because I'm not a masochist and I'm not willing to set up a bot farm.

I actually have RS3 open and am debating playing the game.
I have no idea why.

I always saw it over the years, but never thought to play it once I was at the PC. Chances are i would've just been a hoarder and gotten scammed and quit.

I do not know why I would abandon my 20 year old RS3 account that has 3500 hours invested in it.

Getting 30 Divination and going to bed.
Current Goals:
30-80 Divination (Unlock Invention)
75-80 Smithing (Unlock Invention)
1-?? Invention (I don't really know what this skill does yet)
1-?? Archeology (I don't really know what this skill does yet)
Need a money making method
Need combat gear

ironman isn't a good solution, OSRS itself isn't a good solution yeah

i don't think it's even possible to separate the flaws from the draws at this point. i sub back to RS3 maybe one month every 2-3 years (or whenever amazon prime gives me a free month) and it's like experiencing ten seconds of a badly paced rollercoaster.

ophidian incubation was an especially braindead but usually viable strategy i employed over the years. its SO fucking obnoxious but those eggs are used for those titan summons everyone used so it was always good money. needs 63 summoning tho.

tldr you need one or three 70+ skills, or you need to focus slayer. slayer is the easiest way to make money and progress at the same time. div or preparing herbs are also relatively alright money. especially if you catch wind of an upcoming double exp weekend, herbs especially can make you tons of money (because you prepare it till before the stage where the big exp is earned)

invention is basically a cash sink so don't expect to make money after you unlock it. it makes aspects of combat less annoying, but still, you need money, probably via slayer

Do bird nest runs on fossil island that's really good passive cash.

I'd probably just do Hunter if I wanted some money. Looks like there are 3-4 10m/hr methods for Hunter that I mostly have the recommendations on.

Everyone I've seen so far has either been 2500 total+ (I'm 2200 right now) or an Ironman. I remember back in the day me/you/Sandy were into Runescape. May have even had you or Sandy on my friends list at one point.

lolno. Not touching Slayer for a few weeks at least. I saw that it was a 120 skill now and I'm like "lolnope" especially when I am (near) max Combat and I bet most garbage is balanced around 95 Prayer (there are even Level 99 Prayers now).

Unfortunately, skilling is pretty much inferior to pvming for money making. I would say a decent source of money would be herb runs as it takes about 5-6 minutes for 1m+ with the right setup. Then there's dailies you can look into, but that could create an unhealthy routine where you feel like you're missing out if you aren't doing dailies. I guess another thing you can do is afk on mobile while at work or something lol if you're that desperate for cash.

Unlocking invention is definitely a high priority since it unlocks a ton of benefits for skilling and pvming. You also want to look into archaeology once you get the chance as that skill has some great boons for skilling/pvming as well (once you feel like delving deeper of course)

Those methods require like, actual gear I don't have and like 100+ Slayer, which like. I don't have.

low level slayer is still worthwhile and easy compared to low level anything else, and you probably have higher combat stats and better gear than i do

you can semi afk it too with aggression potions

Sold some gear I had laying around, bought some gear. Started doing Big Game Hunter. It's pretty addictive. Will probably do a mix of it and Divination tomorrow but Divination is super sleep inducing. I am 62 Divination now and I only need 18 more.

either laniakea or movran, the former has some harder stuff added to the pool (like dinos)

i was making decent money doing movran assignments in barrows gear with like 80 slaying, so you should have a way better time than me

Big Game Hunting was fun and was making me a hell of a lot more money than Slayer was. Not as much as the guide says (I was getting 9 kills an hour instead of 18, could probably increase that by actually using a BoB), but still adequate.
And it isn't Grenwall levels of masochism.

I'm training Smithing now and I have no idea how this "rework" got positive feedback from the community.
Training it is painful. All of these xp rates are brutal because everything seems to be balanced around Invention.

^xp rates for smithing have always been mediocre before and after the rework. I think the meta is to just train at Artisan's Workshop nowadays.

As for mining, it's less of a pain now because people no longer need to compete on the same nodes for resources

Yeah the grinding in that game is ridiculous.

I reached a point in my life where I realized that grinding is just a bad game mechanic and stopped playing those games, after wasting 3000 hours in a single Monster Hunter game.

Like, I could have learned a valuable skill in that time. Or done a years salary worth of indie development, but instead I was killing the same imaginary dinosaurs over and over and not even having fun.

Really I should thank grinding games for making me feel insecure about how I spend my time because now I spend my time on projects.

I just figured out how the new smithing system worked lmao.
It's doubling between tiers so you only get the "real" exp from going between t3 and t4 but the real profit is going from t1 to t3.
Guess I am going to make a mix of of T3 and T3 Platebodies then.

You need some level of fun in your life. I am doing like 5 things at once. Listening to a karaoke stream, playing Runescape, reading multiple sites. The argument is that you could be doing the karaoke, but like, that doesn't really interest me. And I'm not a fan of making my career a hobby (or learning Japanese for that matter, I'm lazy af).

Grinding is meant to be an alternative to talent, git gud and beat the game at level 1

Will probably end the night with 77.5-ish Smithing.
Tomorrow I will probably finish off the Smithing and do some Big Game Hunter as I need another 7m to finish off the Smithing (then I get all of my money back).
Probably very optimistic unless I smith while working.

I took a two year break and when I tried logging on, it said I was banned. I couldnt fight it, so I said duck the game. I still have no idea how I was banned from a game I didnt touch for two years.

in runescape's case, the grinding is meant to be the core gameplay mechanic tbh. it's definitely not for everyone, but if it scratches that itch, it scratches it real good

The good thing about runescape is most of the time you can grind AND do all those other things!

Done for tonight and got 75 Divination.
Going to do Missing, Presumed Death => Fate of the Gods reqs tomorrow so I can do Fate of the Gods (have all of the other reqs). I'm missing The Death of Chivalry / Kischei's Troubles (Have all Reqs besides the optional Prayer) / Missing, Presumed Death.

Can't wait to punch in Zamorak's dumb face in this summer

I had a Quest Cape up until around the time I quit (Around the time Plague's End came out). Elf quest series is my favorite and has been ever since Underground Pass.
I actually really dislike the PvE aspect of the game. I'm hoping it "got better" but it's a while until I can really interact with it again.
So to answer your question, yes lol. Most people I Inspect have barely any quest points. Runescape's main draw has always been its quests for me.

Your timeline is way off. Like not even close.

RSC obviously never had p2w (excluding p2p). RS2 launched in 2004. p2w came much, much later.

I need 74 Archaeology for City of Senntisten.
1 week in and the game is just ok. I dislike how so much content is still gated behind high high level Prayer and Herblore (Made even worse that Herblore is an Elite skill now).
But I do like how it looks like they finally provided a way to level Prayer without Gilded Alter that's somehow faster than a Gilded Alter (It's like 1m+ exp/hr even with Dragon Bones).
