If so, at what job?

If you haven't, why do you think you've never been promoted?

I was a department manager at a grocery store. Thats the highest Id ever want to go at that kind of job. Anything higher (store manager, supervisor, etc.) and your life basically revolves around your job.

F***. That. S***.

Ive never worked a job where being in management actually sounds appealing.

In fact, are there any jobs where being a manger doesnt completely suck? Like, I dont hate my life enough to the point where Id want to devote it to work.

Yeah, supervisor of the dairy department at a grocery store.
In a much better role now, no supervisor position, but I got to keep my same pay.

Only as a substitute for a store.

Didn't become one because it was (for a large part) a temp job while I was doing my studies and didn't want to spend my time and take up their resources for something where I wouldn't continue.

I've only ever been a supervisor/manager.
My first job when I was 15 was doing landscaping, when I turned 16 a few months later they promoted me to greenhouse supervisor then later site manager and I've been hired directly into management in ever since.

Department manager is higher up than supervisor.

Yes. Was a maintenance director at a nursing home for awhile. Had to manage the housekeeping and laundry departments. Liked doing the maintenance, but hated management.

Yeah, I managed a data entry department for awhile. Then I moved on to managing several departments. It's a smaller company, so I'm also doing a lot of the work too.

I try to create a mellow environment where people just get to do their job and be left alone. I'll usually fix shit all day so it's in a proper standardized form that people can just grab and work on. Different departments are busy during different parts of the year, so I also kind of float around and take stuff off of people's plates so that it doesn't bottleneck or overly stress people. There's a lot of nerd work, so a lot of employees have social anxiety and overly freak out if they need to call outside to different company to a stranger. I'll either just call myself or funnel it into someone that doesn't mind doing it instead of making people suffer.

Im a trainer/supervisor for a blood sciences lab. Generally its okay. Most of the people prefer to come to me with problems instead of management because Ill be more understanding and compassionate. But you also see the absolute worst in people if they dont get their own way or feel theyre being victimised when they really arent.
