I would definitely debate that point. I think BCS character writing, as SSBM guy mentioned is way better. The plot overall may not be as tightly knit but I think BCS is in the same tier of excellence, just in a different category, if that makes sense. I feel like they're hard to compare though since they're effectively so different of shows, and the Saul parts are so divorced from the other parts a lot of the time. But it still somehow works really well regardless? I dunno, I just enjoy BCS more, probably because it's normally a little less depressing and tense most of the time, oddly enough. It's an easier watch to me and doesn't feel as grimy. YMMV with that, but I think I just enjoy BCS more overall. --- I stream sometimes. At one point (at least once, maybe more than once actually) Howard is talking to her and essentially tells her she should stop being around Jimmy because he's such a bad influence for her and he will "ruin" her. As if she wasn't the one throwing beer bottles off the balcony at people's cars, as if she wasn't running high-end dine and dash schemes. She's not some pure, innocent being dragged down the wrong path by Jimmy, and she fucking ~~hates~~ the implication that she is. She makes her own choices, good or bad, and not one of those crimes she committed is anyone's fault but her own. She is doing pro-bono work not because it's her only choice, far from it, and not because she has some sort of pity for the poor. She's doing it for her own absolution - good deeds to erase the bad. But she doesn't regret what she did, she's not ashamed of it, she only wants to balance the scales of justice when she is judged in the end. She doesn't just want Howard out of the way for the money, she wants to punish him for being a sanctimonious prick. She wants to make him hurt because him implying she doesn't have her own autonomy hurt her, and she is having none of that. When the district attorney is speaking to Kim about Jimmy working with the cartel and is trying to appeal to his or Kim's humanity to get him to turn himself in, Kim frankly corrects her by saying Saul is the one doing all that, not Jimmy. In my mind that's basically her saying that Saul is the kind of lawyer that will work with the cartel, even if Jimmy wasn't and she supports it. She basically comes out and says it later when she brings it up to him, she said do you want to be a friend of the cartel, or a rat? It's such poignant language she chooses to use to let Jimmy and us know what she is thinking: keep working with the cartel, keep getting your hands dirty. At this point clearly she is enabling him because she's getting off on being the "mobsters wife" and the power fantasy of it all has gone to her head, she just keeps such a calm and collected demeanor while doing it that it tricks you into thinking that's not what's happening. But it absolutely is. ~~Also I disagree I think she is at least partially motivated by the money. When the district attorney is speaking to Kim about Jimmy working with the cartel and is trying to appeal to his or Kim's humanity to get him to turn himself in, Kim frankly corrects her by saying Saul is the one doing all that, not Jimmy. In my mind that's basically her saying that Saul is the kind of lawyer that will work with the cartel, even if Jimmy wasn't and she supports it. She basically comes out and says it later when she brings it up to him, she said do you want to be a friend of the cartel, or a rat? It's such poignant language she chooses to use to let Jimmy and us know what she is thinking: keep working with the cartel, keep getting your hands dirty. At this point clearly she is enabling him because she's getting off on being the "mobsters wife" and the power fantasy of it all has gone to her head, she just keeps such a calm and collected demeanor while doing it that it tricks you into thinking that's not what's happening. But it absolutely is. Also I disagree I think she is at least partially motivated by the money. Maybe it plays a part but I think she's just falling into the overall 'Im so much smarter than all of you and I will prove it by being unethical' hole that Jimmy fell into. I don't know if she's necessarily motivated by the man/woman power dichotomy. Also yeah, the show definitely takes points to show that she is more competent than Jimmy in certain areas, like when she argued his innocence for Lalo while Jimmy was too terrified to come up with anything. But it also takes points to show that Jimmy has been through the school of hard knocks when it comes to the scams, and that Kim is much less competent in that department.
