Do you plan to watch it?

Well since my friends went out and invited me I watched it last night. It was...not terrible, Law and Mikkelsen's performance really carried it. Still full of plot holes though.

I really can't stand anything in the HP world outside of the original series, but my girlfriend loves pretty much all of it so I'll probably end up seeing it sometime soon.

Obviously don't want to support it, but I think it's reason enough that the second one was a hilariously terrible piece of absolute shit.

The first one exceeded my low expectations. The second was every bit as bad as I expected the first to be, and then some. What I remember about it, without looking anything up:
1. There was this lady who switched babies on a boat because her baby was crying, and there was this big mystery about her, but she died at the end so the whole thing felt like a shaggy dog story.
2.Grindelwald wants to take over muggles because if he doesn't, the holocaust happens.
3.Credence came back even though in the first one he turned into a giant monster with a handy-dandy dose of magic G-Virus and then exploded. I don't remember if his survival was explained, or if it was a case of "Somehow Credence returned". Oh, and he's Dumbledore's previously-unknown, secretly evil twin brother.

Because of that, I'm not interested in watching the third film. That said, I will give it some credit for finally making Gay Dumbledore explicit and factoring it into the plot, as opposed to treating it as a piece of easily ignored post-books trivia. When it didn't come up in the second film, I thought for sure it had been retconned away, so I'm happy to have been proven wrong.

I saw it.

About gay Dumbledore, notably, he directly says he was gay in the first two minutes of the movie, its like the first thing that happens.

Yeah considering what post Deathly Hollows HP ended up actually being you should probably regret those words.

I guess I didn't consider that The Cursed Child was so bad that people hadn't heard about it.

Usually trainwrecks like that become all the more well known for it.

What? It's a major plot point- "we were closer than brothers", they cut each other's hands and make a blood pact not to hurt each other and turn it into a spell and put it in a jewel and it's the reason Dumbledore has to stay in the shadows and can't move against him directly and the little sausage monster steals the jewel in Paris and the whole bus clapped.

I can envision a very good Newt Scamander focused film series. But what they have is doesn't make any sense either from the perspective of people who are familiar with the books or from the perspective of people who want to tell a cohesive story.

They leaned so hard into committing the Star Wars prequel sin of connecting every last little thing to characters and events we already knew about and everything is worse for it.

Nonsense, the story really benefits from learning that Dumbledore's nephew had sex with Voldemorte's pet snake.

Oops, I must have been pretty dumb to not notice this! In retrospect, maybe I didn't count it because it isn't explicitly stated that they were a couple and you could interpret it as them being best friends, even if a romantic relationship is the intended and more logical interpretation given the closeness.

Dumbledore's secret nephew Aurelius is an illegitimate half-muggle love child his family was ashamed of, so his grandmother (Dumbledore's mother) sailed to the United States with him as a baby on the Titanic instead of apparating, so when the ship started to sink, an unrelated daughter of a rapist mind control wizard switched him out with her half brother, who was also a baby (whose mother was consensual), because she was annoyed at how much her brother cried. The rapist father wizard didn't care about his daughter, but he did love the son, and he was afraid that the daughter's mother's other son (not born by rape) would be angry at his mother being mind controlled raped and would take revenge on the baby instead of the rapist, so he sent the son he loved across the sea to be raised in an orphanage by a muggle who hates magic instead of using vast resources as a nobleman wizard to protect him. By coincidence, both babies were magic. Dumbledore's mother thought that her grandson was still on the Titanic instead of a lifeboat with the rape daughter, and tried to swim down and rescue him instead of using magic, so she died. The rape daughter then handed off the baby (pretending it was her brother) to a French half-elf who'd served the mother, and thus had to continue serving her mind control rapist after she died in childbirth, and delivered him to the orphanage. He was then raised as a muggle who didn't know how to control his magic, which led him to survive exploding, invent goth fashion, join the alt right, kill Bambi's mother, and meet an Indonesian woman at a magic circus who was cursed to turn into a snake and would later become Voldemort's pet.

All of this is 100% canon, by the way, I added nothing.

Haven't watched these movies because prequels don't interest me. And I heard before they weren't good anyway. But reading the partial plot summaries in this topic has been a jolly grand time

Is this purely unhinged Rowling or are there other creators offering the uh... intriguing story elements?

The first two movies only list Rowling as the writer; this new one also credits Steve Kloves (previously the only credited writer on all the Harry Potter movies except OotP for some reason, and also producer on the first two Fantastic Beasts).

Watched it this weekend.

The first FB movie was fun, enjoyable, the characters/animals/effects were great and the story was all right.

The second was OK but really boring, pretty much an unapologetic setup movie. I didn't dislike watching it but I forget most of the details and don't care to watch the movie again.

The third was better than the second, I enjoyed watching it. I do find myself having a lot of minor complaints afterwards, though. And ultimately movies 2 and 3 don't really do much - we are essentially where we left off after the first movie. It's a predictable Dumbledore prequel series now.

I do like Newt and Kowalski. They are delightful.
