Only thing I've heard heard is its an intellectual try-hard book. It's meant to have you look good by it being on your shelf rather than being something you enjoy, since most people find it very difficult to get through.

It is extremely difficult to get through for several reasons, mostly imo it's just not enjoyable to read. Finnegan's Wake on the other hand is like getting high af with an old Jamaican woman and listening to her describe her fever dream hallucinations, once you learn how to read it you realize it's Ourobourous-ing itself it just becomes irresistibly fascinating I would highly recommend

There are a couple of hot takes in there. The only one that immediately comes to mind that might be problematic would be attributing the drop in crime after the early 90s to the legalization of abortion.

Feel like unless it's the only thing on the shelf, you'd be reading far too deeply into it.

I mean, it does glorify horribly emotionally and physically abusive relationships. Like, a lot. A LOT, a lot.

It's not in the same league as Mein Kampf in what it stands for, by a mile. But there is an argument to be made that someone who absolutely loves the relationship-centered twilight books may be more inclined to emulate them in a relationship. Hence, red flag.

Granted, if everybody who's ever loved Twilight was deemed ineligible in the dating pool, we'd be looking at a dangerously dropped water level.

Ehhh, easy enough to find shitty furniture on the side of the road or through craigslist (or facebook market/whatever rules this space now-a-days) or cheapo furniture from like walmart or ikea.

I don't think the bachelor trope is entirely inaccurate.

A male friend recommended the Alchemist to me and I bought it. It is a horrible book and I stopped reading after the first chapter. Dense prose and very off putting. Felt the same about Atlas Shrugged. Nothing to recommend such books but I wouldn't say they were red-flag books. After all, I have them, and a few more from that list, doesn't mean to say I've read them or like them.

But I draw the line at Nadine Dorries. Just why would anyone even attempt to read her *novels*.
