Good, that felt smart. I noticed my opponent started pausing after Junk Speeder resolved and figured they had Nibiru, so I cut my combo short with Crystal Wing and stopped them in their tracks.

EDIT: Then a brutally close game against Traptrix where I needed double Pot of Desires and ended up on 5 cards in deck and no more tuners, but had just enough to get out Crystal Wing + Dawn Dragster and lock up the board.

Then Exodia, zzz. I was playing lifegain anyway though and they played 3 Upstart Goblins so taste it. And then they bricked and surrendered anyway.

Rumors of bots running (primarily) D.D. Dynamite OTK decks. Not great.

It only works against people with 14+ cards in the extra deck though.

Sounds like another W for the Monarchs and their hard reliance on no extra deck cards

Summon Edea, use effect to special summon Eidos, tribute both for Erebus, use Erebus effect to send Pantheism to grave (and shuffle an opponent card into deck), banish Pantheism to pull Domain, play Domain, pass turn with a 2800 beatstick and enemy is locked out of their own extra deck as a bonus

Probably only Gran maju since extra deck is mostly draw power and fodder for gizmek

Played against two of the slowest players trying to do dailies today

First one was a Virtual World player that ff'd on turn 5 after 30 minutes when I stormforth'd his True King turn 2 then banished his Shenshen turn 4 (He scooped after sitting on his turn for about a minute doing nothing)
Second one was a Six Sam player who I beat fairly quickly just counting cards played/number of turns but each of his turns took like 10 minutes and not because he was actually playing cards.

It sucked

I think I caused someone to surrender this morning when I was doing dailies. I was playing Six Sam and opened with a pretty absurd hand with Gateway and it took me a long ass time to finish setting up and doing shenanigans. When it came back around to my second turn, I started doing more shenanigans and he surrendered quickly lol.

Well, like it or not I'm plat now

I didn't manage my wins away from rank-up properly and then hit a bot as my first game today so I couldn't just surrender a couple times down to 3-4 wins away from rank up

Should've just forced my way through surrenders all the way back down to gold 2, but we'll see how bad the daily grind gets zzz

I am 2-0 all time against Drytron (Don't know how I've only seen it twice in the ~month I've been doing dailies regularly, nor how I didn't see it at all when I dabbled in ranked before that) =)

In both cases, I went first, they scooped as soon as I played a board, and I had to check their deck after to know what they were playing.

But my deck is pretty bad going second against meta boards, so losing to them if they can set up is not at all a unique or unusual thing.

I feel like Synchrons have done okay against Dryton. At least I can shut them out if I go first, and have a chance at disrupting them even if I go second. That's not really true for Tri Brigade, I'm not sure I've ever beaten them.

Honestly, after a few days the deck variety hasn't been bad. The only duplicate matches I've had are DD Dynamite bots and Virtual World

But holy shit, all of these people play so fucking slow, as if they don't actually know what the fuck their decks do. Especially the fucking Virtual World players. It's infuriating for that alone. It's not fucking difficult to turbo into True King and recycle Shenshen, but they play like it is.

VW is pretty complex with a million different combos but yeah, that's why I played a bunch of solo mode games first before I stepped into ranked with it. I'm not looking to waste anyone's time.

I do want to make clear I don't have much against VW in particular besides their reliance on a card that's banned in the paper game (especially since they don't need to! I looked into it a while back because I considered playing it myself and it's a perfectly competent deck without True King. But everybody that runs the deck just turbos him instead and it's dull), and I have played against VW players that were capable of playing reasonably quickly (You included in one of the tournaments we did). Just, neither of the ones I played since reaching Plat were like that. And several other decks I've played against were mega slow players (Including such combo-heavy decks as Dark Magician and Eldlich). The only one that I can recall standing out as a reasonably paced player over the past few days, besides the quick scoops when I got my own board set up, was actually Tri-Zoo

Yeah no worries I didn't think you were insulting me or the VW deck or anything. I'm absolutely with you, I hate when people hop into ranked without knowing their deck.

what do you guys do with your Royal Finish Foil cards? i've obviously dusted the ones i don't care about for those sweet 30 points but for cards I do actually use/like, i'm kind of hesitant to dust even though it just means they're shinier. i do typically care about cosmetics a lot in-game though

it's funny because i really dislike all the upper rarities in paper (Ultimate Rares and all the new rarities they've come out with, even the new Ultra Rares) but i can't seem to let go of digital shiny cards.

You dust them for 30 SR/UR, right? So you don't profit by dusting one if you expect to use it.

I'm still hanging on to my shiny Shooting Quasar even though I only run Blazar, but I would have done that for a normal UR too.

I have Royal Finish Card of Demise and Cursed Bamboo Sword that I'm keeping around/(will) actually use. I also have Royal Finish Archfiend's Ascent and Red Reign that I should almost certainly dust but haven't yet because I haven't been stressing too much over SR points, and a Fire Formation Tenki that I don't know what to do with specifically because Tri-Brigade is (As far as I've seen/heard) a rather cheap and splashable engine so I've just held onto it.

I have a royal finish card that I use in my plunder deck. No reason to dismantle it since I need to use it regardless & I don't have another.

I finally hit an Eldlich player with Masked Hero Acid and it was glorious to watch the immediate surrender.

Event's up. Felt like a quick game before work, which, it wasn't. Sharks vs Chaos Rituals/Impcantations. Their Blue-Eyes Chaos having destruction and targeting immunity was a pain but it was no match for double Snowdust Giant.

I was able to play four before work, though one I bricked hard to lose on the third turn and another was an instant scoop which was ???

Forbidden Chalice is the most clutch of cards though. That's all I can say.

Biggest thing I've learned so far after day 1 of this event is that playing N/R decks isn't all that fun to me. Just trying to grind out my 10000 medals and get out.

I lazied out and decided to just play the probable best deck in the format (metalfoes). I'm both winning games and using my extra deck despite not really knowing how to play it. It's rather silly.p

NR is fun for me because no handtraps means I can usually go all out on my turn and they wont have too much interruption

It's not fun for me for the exact same reason. Sitting and waiting for someone to combo is still not fun even when it's a bad deck.

Are you sure YGO is for you?

Everything pre-2017 is great, and I've grown to love the newer stuff as long as there are available checks and interruptions in the form of hand traps to facilitate a game that isn't solitaire!

When you take away the hand traps but keep the current format, albeit in a neutered form, you've found the exact niche of things that doesn't fit into the 90% of the game I do like!

I just had a nailbiter of a game against Gadgets, and the gameplay in this event is vastly better than what ranked has to offer.

Definitely does for sure, but those traps don't exactly work when going second. I'm 8-2 so far in my games which is great, but it's not really the style of game I'm looking for.

It's not awful, but there are certain things, like Heart-EartH Dragon, that have very few outs because the cards just don't exist in the format to easily beat it once it gets out.

I feel like Heart Earth sucks? People keep talking it up and it looks really bad to me and has not impressed me in play. They'd have better luck beating me to death with Draglubion and not bothering with using its effect.

EDIT: Actually, that 'nailbiter of a game against Gadgets' I referenced earlier would probably have been a conclusive loss had my opponent not been so stuck on activating Draglubion. It gave me more time to control the board and find a way to bring out Thunder Spark Dragon, which I converted into a win despite my 500 remaining LP.

Anyway, 11 duels in with Sharks, and halfway through to 10k.

Round 1: Chaos Rituals w/ Impcantation
Round 2: Cyber Dragon
Round 3: Anti-Meta (DD Warrior Lady, Doomcaliber Knight, etc)
Round 4: Gadgets w/ Generaiders (My sole loss, to Boss Stage which is an absolutely stupid card to have to deal with on the draw)
Round 5: Metalfoes
Round 6: Cyber Dragon
Round 7: Gadgets w/ Infinitrack
Round 8: Armed Dragon Structure deck
Round 9: Yang Zing
Round 10: Tenyi w/ Kaiju and tokens, an OTK deck I think
Round 11: Gadgets w/ Infinitrack

It's been cool, and the games are interesting.

Are you using the same list from the B8 Tourney? It looks fun and I'm already super tired of the Blackwing Tri-Brigade list I put together.

I think the only deck I've gone against multiple times that has also given me the most "this isn't fun" vibes is that Gadget w/ Infinitrack deck.

I did come across a single Dragon Maid player, and I'm not sure how much of that deck is available in N/R, but it was pretty sad to see them summon a single Dragon Maid and then have no follow up to my 1900 atk Blackwing that I just attacked with for the entire game.

What is available is enough if they can get enough of their big dragons out of their deck.
They also still have their bouncing trap which is a pain. No, I am totally not salty about getting wrecked by them.

actually won a couple games with my N/R Mermail deck. i lost a fun 20-turn one against some Kaiju/Inferno Tempest.

opponent uses Inferno Tempest to banish all monsters in deck/graveyard. But the two cards I had in hand was a monster & Moon Mirror Shield. Lived for a few more turns but DDR was too much.

A not insignificant amount of people are playing true Draco and it sucks to play it. Not because the deck is that good in the format but because all their turns take so long to do nothing.

Going like 80/20 with my schlopped together blackwing deck so I'm pretty happy with that.

Still kinda just waiting for the new packs. Getting dangerously close to the max gem limit.

I just played seven games trying to do daily missions

Won the first one, no problem. Four of the next six, I didn't see a single monster card. The other two, it just wasn't possible for me to actually play the fucking game (Both courtesy of Ash Blossom making it impossible for me to un-brick my starting hand).

I know I'm playing a deck with consistency issues, but jesus fucking christ, it should not be this bad. And that one aspect has definitely been significantly worst over the past week

Finished the event except for the destroying monsters mission, which I have a couple more of but I'll do that as it comes. Well over the gem limit now and ready for Swordsouls.

I guess I should hold gems for a potential synchro event so I can actually play a deck there.

It'll probably be swordsouls too, just based on what I know of other synchro archetypes and me not really liking any of them off the top of my head. Maybe VW, but Swordsouls sounds a bit more appealing?
