After taking a loooooong break cleaning the salt from my veins, I got back up to Plat 3, and I think that is where I have to be at end of season. Sucks that I had to rely on my meta deck(Bird Up) to do so and that I don't have the time to go farther, but when in Rome, I suppose...

I am building a Zoo engine and Photon deck to make my meta and casual sides more varied respectively, though.

I've got a pure Zoodiac deck that I made simply because after finishing the Zoo engine in Tri-Brigade I had already crafted all of the most expensive cards, and it's just so boring to play on it's own.

Literally every single game is, "Xyz summon a half dozen times with the goal of getting to a Zeus" and literally nothing else. If you go first, sometimes you get to summon an F0, but those are essentially the only two desired board states.

I'm still not sure what I want to build with my second deck, which is starting to become a problem because I have a lot of gems.

Like, if Monarchs are an 8/10 deck for me, then everything else I've considered is like a 5/10 at most. Maybe I'll just go for another throwback style deck and build some Zombies. But I don't even know what the playstyle there is these days.

Alternatively, I could keep kicking the can by finishing the Utopia deck that I have a skeleton of from buying 3x structure

Well, my main deck is Domain Monarchs (Beatdown with Stun aspects via locking out the Extra Deck, but can't really call that Control at all) and I am rather enjoying it despite the annoyingly common bricks.

Burn is fun, but I'm not sure I'd want to stall for it. Control is fine, but doesn't super excite me or anything.

(Though I will say that my comment was specifically about Zombies and that I don't know how they're played today - Unless you're telling me that they're a flexible enough type to be played all three ways? I brought them up since I have a bit of nostalgia for Spirit Reaper, Vampire Lord, and Patrician of Darkness, the last of which was my favorite card in the OG days)

Zombies have like sub-archetypes within it iirc so i would be surprised if there weren't multiple playstyles within that umbrella. i think it sounds weird to me because it seems more general-sounding than other archetypes. like there's a "Vampire" archetype (they all look pretty dandy if i do say so) but they're Zombie-type monsters

Eldlich is technically a zombie deck and is the best of the bunch. Only issue with that is it's Eldlich.

I have seen some Zombie World versions of Eldlich that are nowhere near as cancerous as the most popular build, maybe you can check that out?

I used a bunch of gems on Chronomaly for the Xyz event even though I knew they weren't good and people would be trying to cheese it, because I think they're neat. At least I can summon Vimana and pretend I'm Gilgamesh. Spend gems on whatever seems like it would be entertaining.

i looked at some cards. seems pretty cool in concept. changing the types of oponents' monsters can fuck with them so much.

I've played against Doomking a few times and it seems pretty good.

for me anyway, i just pick based on the design of the archetypes regardless of playstyle and then just try to learn later. i haven't yet come across a cool-looking archetype where i see how they play and go "eh not impressed" though.

actually i think the only archetype i've seen so far where i don't get the playstyle at all is like Ghostrick

This is quite literally my problem.

That said, looking at other peoples' deck lists a bit, ZW Eldlich seems simultaneously relatively cool (Especially for relying on monsters other than Golden Lord, even if he's still the main attraction) and as cancer as you want to make it (They don't seem to have huge issues still running Rivalry of Warlords, Imperial Order, Skill Drain, etc - Rivalry combos with Zombie World especially well because Zombie World only affects monsters on the field)

Balerdroch is hella cool regardless though.

I may have made a grave mistake

Decided to commit to Zombie World Eldlich. Decided I'd pull the Abyssal Underworld secret pack until I pulled two ZWs then I'd switch over to the Eldlich pack. Only pulled one ZW after dropping 9k gems, so deck's only half complete before considering the extra deck. I'm currently on 70 SR/UR essence each which isn't a lot... Maybe I should look into a non-Eldlich ZW deck, but I didn't pull any Balerdroches at all lol. Or maybe I should've just started with the Eldlich pack so I could just fall back on cancer if I didn't get the good pulls...

On the bright side, I finally made a playset of Maxx C (And that second Vanity's Fiend I've been thinking about for a long time) and I have >1k N/R crafting essence again even after building most of a Nurse Burn deck (Though ideally I want more than a few SRs in it for consistency power, as well as the UR Tri-And-Guess...)

The secret packs are sort of scams, I think. I mean, it's still better than just buying the pack with everything in it. But the way I understand it is that you're guaranteed (at least) 4 rate up cards per pack, and then their rarities are assigned as per whatever the normal distribution. Which means your rate ups will often be taken up by Ns and Rs, and even if your pack has an SR or UR, it has a good chance to be a spook. At least, if you take a random pack with exactly 1 SR/UR in it, it'd only have a 40% chance to be within the rateup. That's pretty bad.

Even so, if you're trying to build a deck using several cards out of one (And make no mistake, even though I didn't get multiple ZW I'm 80% sure without double checking that I got every other UR/SR I needed from the pack), you can't really beat repeated pulls from it (At least until you've got everything you want) rather than just the random smattering from the Master Pack with the same (iirc?) UR/SR rates.

It's of course the best option still. I don't think your experience of throwing a lot of gems at a pack and still having to craft multiple cards from it afterward is at all unusual though. Like when I was opening Chronomaly and got 3 copies of Atlandis (A fine card that Chronomaly itself is very bad at using) and none of Vimana (the actual good one).

find it kinda funny how the only secret pack i was missing was Evilswarm of all things. At least got me an Exciton Knight...too bad I don't have the space.

Only second time I've spent gems since using the initial influx of gems on Monarchs!

Since I was actually raising my rank until I reached platinum this month, this is the first time I've experienced that you miss out on gems if you're platinum at the end of a season. That's idiotic.

Yeah I thought they addressed it last time with the compensation but it seems they are actually trying to make ranked a worse experience with that

Also everything said about secret packs above is true and it's also stupid that they're only available for 24 hours which is the most noticeably stupid thing about them

Eh, I acknowledged that I fucked up by not switching to the Eldlich pack to actually finish the deck after 4ish pulls. I was unlucky, but also dumb.

Also, I'm hella indecisive with dusting cards so I could probably scrounge up enough SR/UR dust to finish the deck if I were to just go through and start breaking things down. Well, dunno about the Extra Deck, but...

Not just because of the rate at which you can get cards but also there isn't a nice viewing gallery mode or anything like that.

And dusting URs is pretty much necessary for those points. At least there's so many archetypes I'm sure I'm never going to play a bunch of them.

I essentially dust anything SR/UR that's unplayable. I use MasterDuelMeta that has playrates for everything. If a card I search up comes up blank, it's an easy dust.

Oh I should do that. Not for every card since I like a lot of non-meta archetypes and whatnot but there are some generic extra deck cards i have no idea about

I went through and dusted everything that didn't have any decks listed on Master Duel Meta, but I need to get a bit more ruthless with my dusting if I want to finish my ZW Eldlich decklist in the immediate term.

In spite of that, I think my plan is to build up 2000 or 3000 gems (Should probably take 2-3 weeks if I cheese daily missions and play them every day, especially if I climb back up to at least gold 1 rank), pull the Eldlich secret pack with them (Since most of the cards I'm missing can be found there), and try to hang on to at least some of it. The breakdown isn't nearly as bad as I thought though, especially in the Extra Deck

8 Main Deck URs
3 Extra Deck URs
= 330 UR Dust total (have 155)

12 Main Deck SRs
7 Extra Deck URs
= 570 SR Dust Total (Have 650)

Bonus 10 Exodia Deck SRs = 300 more SR Dust
And 2 more Exodia Deck URs = 60 more UR Dust

Once I finish that I can go finish the Nurse Burn (13 SRs+3 URs for the ideal list I've got in mind but I can find substitutes for sure) deck so I've got two solid-but-not-really-meta decks (Monarchs/ZW Eldlich) and two meme decks (Exodia, Nurse). I technically already have Exodia but I want a Bamboo Sword engine instead of a Blue-Eyes Engine for it because that should be significantly more consistent

i think 3k is a safe number? the worst thing about secret packs though is when you pull no URs in a 10 pack so you're guaranteed one in the next but the timer is going to run out so you feel like you have to either grind to somehow find any unclaimed gem rewards you have lying around or pay up. otherwise it's just more of a waste.

i would just never pull on a pack unless i have at least 2k for that reason though. 3k is extra insurance.

Pretty sure that guaranteed UR will still be there next time you unlock the pack and pull, but yeah. That's annoying regardless.

I tried playing a couple ranked games today.

Three in a row against different people all played out the exact same way. I get a turn 1 setup of Domain + March + Erebus/Ehther. Opponent plays Harpie's Feather Duster into Numeron OTK while I cry because I had no option to go into Vanity's/Majesty's Fiend instead of a Monarch.

All three games, the exact same. It was rather stupid.

I touched up my Synchron deck a bit based on some other lists online. The maindeck I'm still happy with, but one build suggested using Chaos Ruler and Archfiend Abyss, just like in my Resonator deck, and I can easily see the value of that, plus I snuck Dawn Dragster in. Dawn Dragster instantly pulled its weight in my first game where I got the better of a Dryton deck, so that was nice.

Alright I'm back into Plat. Final duel was against an Eldlich deck, which made it even more sweet to get the W.

I've really been enjoying my newest deck of Infernoble Knights. I've mostly played solo with it but thebl few ranked games I've done in silver went surprisingly well.

Even though my Synchron deck folds really hard to most hand traps, I sometimes get away with wins I shouldn't because the opponent jumps at the first thing they can Ash. I had a pretty good win against Virtual World because they Ashed my Tuning. From my perspective I can say that once you know I'm on Synchron, you shouldn't Ash anything but Speeder, but that's not so obvious from their perspective. I wonder if there are other decks where I could be choosing better targets for my own Ashes.

This happens to me pretty often lol. It tickles me. But I'm sure I've made bad ash plays before too.

Heros stalled out in Plat so I switched over to Tri-Brigade and climbed pretty easily back to Plat 1.

Time to relax and do daily missions for the rest of the month.

Made another deck <_< this time Six Sams. It's still very basic and I desperately need another copy of the Link one but it's running fairly well so far.

i typically just play around with like a bare minimum of a shell of any deck i'm building. i don't think i'll ever have finished decks.

i'm a little interested in making SixSams but they're lower on the priority list.

I was kind of interested in Six Sams until I found out that at the top end they're one of those decks that has 15 minute first turns, so I changed my mind on that pretty quickly.

i almost always just Ash the first thing i see because i have no familiarity with any of these decks

at some point you can start thinking about baiting Ash but i'm nowhere near that yet
