  1. Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) (cut for generally negative reactions & for providing no future influence for the franchise thus far)
  2. The ABCs of Death (anthology slot went to VHS)
  3. The Green Inferno (rankers general aversion to "extreme" movies like this)
  4. World War Z (cut for Pepsi scene)
  5. Evil Dead (2013) (Ash vs. Evil Dead was the more influential Evil Dead project this decade)
  6. What We Do in the Shadows (was trying to limit comedies on the list)
  7. Shin Godzilla (while kaiju definitely has a place in the horror landscape, and this film absolutely highlights the horror of Godzilla, I don't think it gelled with the list as a whole)
  8. Annihilation (more suited to sci-fi)
  9. Suspiria (too niche / long)
  10. Doctor Sleep (box office bomb)

The Shallows
This one in particular stands out to me, because aquatic horror was a pretty notable trend within the genre during the 2010s, at least from my perspective. Granted, many of the most notable such movies were pretty overtly horror comedies or not really horror at all, which I'd guess probably has something to do with its omission.

Also, uh, should I know about World War Z's Pepsi scene? That sounds... concerning.

Yeah it was, and the "shark movie" in particular has been a mainstay of horror cinema since at least Jaws came out. I guess I just couldn't find a spot for it unfortunately. The other big ones I considered were Sharknado, The Meg, and 47 Meters Down.

It was pretty okay, yeah. I think I enjoyed the short film it was based on better because that's all the movie really needed to be. I'm mostly just glad it got made since David F. Sandberg was able to go on to direct the solid Annabelle sequel and the best DCEU film I've seen (haven't seen The Suicide Squad yet).

I have about 5 I think left, though I may try and squeeze in some rewatches on stuff that I haven't seen for a while or need to split a close/tie ranking.

Yeah, Upgrade is pretty cool and it was interesting to see Leigh Whannell utilize some similar immersive camera techniques in his Invisible Man movie as well.

Other relatively recent horror (or horror related) that didn't show up on this watchlist that could help fill out another list.

The Blackcoat's Daughter
Housebound
The Wailing
Under the Shadow
Unsane
One Cut of the Dead
The Lure
Gretel & Hansel
Psycho Goreman
Bad Hair
Color Out of Space
Krampus

Eh, personal thoughts about the movie aside, I wouldn't call the sequel a snub. There are plenty of sequels that didn't make it in, and nothing about HDD2U really makes it stand out as important compared to the others of that decade

I remember it being considerably more sci-fi than the first one, which I thought made the concept more interesting. At the end of the day, it's still a slasher.
