Which genre have you logged the most hours in?

Well, I can't be 100% sure since not all these games/platforms have built-in playtime count, or they're a bit of a hassle to access and compare. But it's probably something like:

The Sims 3 - Played a lot of it during college and after, and it's just such a time sink.
Age of Empires 2 (including all PC versions) - Been playing it on and off again since elementary school, starting from Conquerors to HD and now the DE, and even though I mostly only play campaigns, it's gotta add up
Persona 3 (including FES and Portable) - Mostly from vanilla and FES (haven't finished Portable), I also finished The Answer. And since one playthrough is already so long, it's probably up there after the different playthroughs.

HM:
Candy Crush
The Sims 2
Pokemon R/S/E
Hades
Fallout: New Vegas
Ragnarok Online

Kinda Anagramed FPS or at least shooters on the poll but I just filed it under action/adventure.

I think my top 3 is
  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops II - I played this straight on from like 2012 to at least 2016, since the CODs coming out around that time were largely mediocre or uninteresting to me. I played semi-professionally and there just felt such an unlimited amount to do in this game's MP.
  2. Fortnite - Been playing this since it launched basically. I'm a bit more on/off than I used to be but I still regularly long 100s of hours into this per year. There's always something to keep it fresh.
  3. Overwatch - Totally obsessed with this game for about 2 years, then kinda dipped off BIG time. Still, it's easily in the top 3 which shows exactly how much this game took over my life for a while. I still bring it out every once in a while.

HMs:
COD4 / Modern Warfare 2 / Modern Warfare 3 / Black Ops Cold War
GTA5
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil Remake

it is, without a doubt, world of warcraft.

prior to playing that, i think my most played title would have been around 100-150 hours, something like Pokemon or Morrowind

but i used wow mostly as a chat client for years

second and third place have to be rocket league and starcraft

the thing about most games is that they end. online competitive games and mmos don't end

Thankfully Action/Adventure is so broad.

The only one I played with regularity is called UOSSMUD (Unofficial Squaresoft MUD) that uses a Final Fantasy Tactics job system on top of standard leveling.

EDIT: Before that, I played an old AOL-based one called Dragon's Gate or something similar before my parents caught wind of it (since it was a predatory "chews up money per hour" MUD) and also played Merentha.

  2. Hearthstone, even though I've barely played in years
  3. TFT

If we count TFT as part of league of legends since they're in the same client, then it's either Dota 2, Town of Salem, or maybe like Mario Kart Wii / Super Smash Bros. Brawl from when I was younger?

Probably World of Warcraft from back in the day, even though it should be reasonably lower than most players who get hooked to it, that and it being cumulative over the years.

As far as non-online multiplayer goes it's single-player RPG without question

Top 5 would be (no sufficient data but just an estimation from the amount of times I played the games and the actual length of the games)
  1. Final Fantasy VII
  2. Final Fantasy VIII
  3. Persona 4 + Golden
  4. Persona 5 + Royal
  5. Dark Souls

Most replayed games would probably be
  1. Metal Gear Solid
  2. Resident Evil 4
  3. Final Fantasy VII
  4. Final Fantasy VIII
  5. Super Mario World

Halo 2
Halo 3
F-Zero X
Snowboard Kids 2
Project Gotham Racing 2
MVP Baseball 2005
Madden 06
Rocket League
Apex Legends
Town of Salem

My #1 and 2 are Melee and Brawl. My conservative estimate is >1500 each, but it could easily be 2000-2500 for either or both of them. It's impossible to count due to playing on so many people's different consoles.

My #3, which is the highest game with tracked playtime that I own, is Super Mario Maker, with 1100 hours on my Wii U.

(#4 and 5, which I also have data for, are Splatoon 2 with 1000 and New Pokemon Snap with 900).

My top two are definitely League of Legends (Even though I haven't played it in like four or five years now) and FTL, both definitely clearing 1k hours.

#3 is probably Link to the Past due to the randomizer and the time I've spent practicing+racing that, but I don't have a real time estimate there.

Beyond that, Steam reports Terraria as roughly 375 hours. I'm probably pretty close to that on both P4 and P5 between originals, Golden/Royal and NG+. P5 in particular I've played 4 times (NG+ once each for both Vanilla and Royal) and I think my fastest playthrough there was 60 hours lmao

There are also a few other multiplayer games from childhood that I have a ton of hours in due to just inertia and siblings but that I wouldn't have any good estimates for. Stuff like Gen 1/2 Pokemon, Mario Kart/Party, etc

I'm sure there are some games from my snes/early computer games I'm not thinking of that would actually be among the most played.

Voted casual/puzzle games because I've been playing Tetris, Bejeweled, etc. for YEARS before I got into other games. Didn't realize some of my faves were categorized as adventure, plenty of visual novels to be had.

Top 5 based on hours spent aside from puzzle games:
  1. Ace Attorney franchise - far and away a fave
  2. Umineko no Naku Koro ni [Question Arcs] spent a dang lot of time on this, although I think there's more to it than what I read
  3. The House in Fata Morgana franchise - life changing and also worth investing in Kleenex for
  4. Miami Law - an old DS fave where you could CYOA and pick whether you wanted to play as the undercover cop or the secret agent at various points in the story
  5. Kind Words - some might say this isn't a game, but whatever. It's very fulfilling and worth the time spent.
Honorable mention - Brain Age, haha. I was playing this daily for an amount of time.

I typically play on DS Lite/3DS and Steam.

Three individual games are hard.

#1 is certainly Age of Empires 2. I know I have over 5k hours in my life of that game, across 20 years.

#2 is probably Awesomenauts. I think I played it for around 1,000 hours from 2012 to 2014.

#3 I think might be Hearthstone? For about 2 years I probably played 1-2 hours a day which would get me to about 1,000 hours or so.

Diablo 3 and Dead By Daylight might be close, but I think those are the top 3. I can't think of anything else that comes close.

Super Mario Maker: I completely fell in love with this, logged around 600 hours in and made 30+ levels. A couple absurdly ambitious levels took me 30+ hours to create individually. Shame that I didn't feel the same way about the sequel. Despite its plethora of new tools, creating levels was just not near as fun without the system of having the Wii U gamepad and TV to bounce around on simultaneously. Truly a perfect fit for the Wii U.

Breath of the Wild: My Switch says I have 420 hours in here, and that's only in 2 playthroughs. My first playthrough stretched to almost 300 hours on its own. Ended up doing almost everything here, though not quite all the Korok seeds (think I got 600 something). But I fully upgraded every armor piece, did every stupid sidequest even as they added more, and would just continue to play this thing non-stop because it has the best exploration in any game ever made. My second playthrough on Master Mode I merely did every shrine and every divine beast, like a sane person, but it includes the DLC and I still put another 100+ hours in.

Halo 3: Almost definitely my most played multiplayer game of all time, but I have no way of knowing the hour count sadly. I certainly put hundreds and hundreds of hours in this back in the day though, and they just consistently supported it with awesome new maps and weird new community-made modes and I always came back. Damn, Halo 3 was just so good. And hey, I'm currently addicted to Halo Infinite's multiplayer right now. Time is a circle.

I do wonder if games I played all the time as a kid might actually make this list, like Smash Melee or Perfect Dark, but my best guess is these are my correct top 3.
