I guess not! I had never opened the Unown-dex before. Most of the ones I found were either from wisp hunting or just "that looks like an area that would have a secret".

There's full-screen tutorial about it that pops up when you unlock it, so I think he's asking if you just ignored that

Huh I don't remember that at all so yeah I must have missed it. I remember the line about Unown having an aura that repels non-empty Pokeballs or whatever but that's it.

Actually, I just checked and I do remember reading it, but I didn't realize the hints were already all there. I figured I'd find them throughout the game. And then I never opened the Unown-dex until like 30 hours later lmao

Pokedex complete and got the Shiny Charm
I am wondering what I should do now
Going for a "Perfect" Pokedex is insanity but the reward is soo good that it's actually tempting
However since we don't know how Pokemon HOME integration will work...I am not sure I should bother with this beforehand?

Having a perfect entry increases shiny odds for that pokemon

Oh I thought he was saying that having an entire perfect Pokdex gave some uber reward.

Yay, got shiny female Basculegion. Only took a few resets for the outbreak thankfully. The shiny male will come eventually.

I have perfect pages for Bidoof and Gengar. Fairly close to having it for P-Z too.

I guess the only one of those that matters is Bidoof tho because PZ and Gengar are really rare in the wild.

I am trying to perfect the Eeveelutions pages. At it for 3 hours and still not finished

I think that answers my question whether I will do it for everyone or not...

lol, it took me like 5-6 tries to unmount from Sneasler on the Grandtree without falling off the branch.

took a break from the game for a bit, but today I finished off (post-game) the weather trio. Dealing with their overworld gimmick just was not fun for me, maybe I was dealing with it wrong but it was a lot of forced time-wasting which is lame.

I think I'm around the point where I need to force distortions to finish off the dex, but other than that I'm probably not going to take the time to get everything to 10. I got a solid 50 hours out of the game, and if they have any free DLC I'd be willing to come back.

I beat all the bosses with bait only. Made it way more fun.

Discovered with my brother that you can just trade the same Pokmon back and forth and it counts as a new catch every time. You dont even have to close the trade menu in between or anything

so we traded all the babies and the fossils back and forth over and over since theyre somewhat annoying to find

Dex finished, amusingly I had forgotten Bronzor along with the babies that I was missing (I used Bronzong for a good portion of postgame but apparently I caught it in that form). I found two shinies over the last couple days, Starly and... Staravia. >_>

Also (post-game) I didn't check in with the professor in his room after beating the main plot for too long, and thus didn't realize he gave you the other two starters until I was probably under 10 left (I had found Quilava and oshawatt from distortions, I still needed cyndaquil).

I liked it for the trio because it felt hectic but doable, but Enamorous (possibly spoilers for you if you haven't caught everything yet?) was just a pain. Eventually I just cheesed her with stealth spray and dozens of smoke bombs.

Is that cheesing? I didn't use either but that's basically what they're there for and I wish I had now. I quite liked them on the whole, though putting Enamorus in a bog with limited manoeuvrability wasn't great.

It feels like cheesing because it essentially doesn't even trigger the fight. Frankly I didn't expect those items to even work on a "boss" but I kinda appreciate that they do.

I brute forced Braviary and showed up behind them

Yeah I felt like it was cheese to beat Enamorous with Feather balls

Finally started playing this the last couple days...and yep, this game rules. Color me impressed, Game Freak. About 10 hours in and just trying to capture as many alphas as I can in one expedition is so much fun. Biggest achievement so far is catching a level 62 Blissey that I had to cheese and reset my game for multiple times (damn thing kept healing itself and one time beat my great ball with next to no health). Only had a team of 30s and 40s up against it. Sadly I won't be able to use it properly for a while because I'm only just getting star rank 4, but hey, that didn't stop me from using level 40s anyway for the last 3 hours!

The loop is a ton of fun. Just beat Kleavor a little bit ago and did some more quests. Excited to continue and get some more mounts baby.

I will say this is the first game maybe ever that I've thought "I might actually skip these cutscenes if it let me" though.

So maybe a dumb question but

When catching Pokemon and locked onto them readying the ball, am I supposed to be waiting for the arrows above them to appear or disappear? Does it even make a difference? I thought early on the game told me the more arrows in the icon the harder it was to catch at the time. I've been trying to time my throws so the ball hits when they're gone.

Also what's the best ball to catch Alphas earlier on? I only have up to Leaden Balls. Are heavy or great balls better is my main question I guess. Sometimes I can get them super low on health and it can still take like 5+ balls and I just switch between types.

I have no idea about the icons when locking on, I never used it. You wanna hit them from behind if possible. The leaden ball is the highest catch rate you've got right now.

I believe you misunderstood
The arrows just tell you if that Pokemon is easy/hard/impossible to catch, they don't affect anything - they just provide information

Leaden is good if you get them unaware. I think there's a bonus for using the heavy balls on unaware Pokemon.

That's kind of what I was figuring at this point since I've seen no discernible difference from timing. But yeah, I have been mainly trying to hit Pokemon from behind. That works!

I'd say yeah, doing quite a bit of battling in general just to fill out the Pokedex. I love that you can catch so many things with never battling them though.

And interesting, leaden balls are really better than great balls huh? Why do I keep thinking great balls are so great lol. (This is like my third Pokemon game ever)

I just used the heavy ball iterations (heavy, leaden, one more) all game and they seemed really effective. Plus they look better

each level of heavy ball is slightly better than the Poke/Great/Ultra equivalent, and then even better if you hit them without being spotted

I was never able to hit anything with heavy balls so I gave up

Someone on Reddit posted he finished getting a Perfect Dex
Took him 322 hours
That's 3 times my current playtime and I am already burnt out

Is it? Dialga and Palkia definitely imitate different parts of the weird "fence" Arceus was shoved through, they're both quadrupeds, and Giratina has the tail. Feels like they all have parts of Arceus pretty clear.

Giratina might not have been intentional but in retrospect you can absolutely fit the tail into that.

Got everything I wanted besides super grindy stuff that doesn't worth bothering
Living Dex + Form Dex (and Gender differences)
Got all Static Alpha Pokemon
All Requests
Shiny Charm
And something like 15 Perfect Pokemon pages

Life dream would be to get all Pokemon Perfect, All Alpha and all inventory upgrades
But it would also mean spending 3 times the number of hours I currently have on the game (about 120ish)
So no thank you

I wonder if the Completionist will do an episode on this and if he'll keep it to something reasonable. I remember when he did Persona 5 he had a poll or something about whether having one of every Valentine's Day chocolate would be required, and that would've required playing through the game like a dozen times

I mean I did assume a DLC would be announced today but I expected something in like 2-3 months not a free update that drops today!
Well I have to see how much content there is...

Looks like the update changed mass outbreaks so you can no longer go back to the village and have the same outbreak still be out there, so that's a blow to shiny hunting.

That surprises me. The way they set up mass outbreaks to have their seeds generated even for future trips from Jubilife made it seem like that was intended as a shiny farming method.
