I like the premise: a teenage soccer team's plane crashes and they go all Lord of the Flies on each other. Sounds great. They're shown wearing creepy masks and cannibalizing each other in the first episode. Awesome.

What I hate is whenever the show is NOT focused on the crash. The first episode was a complete waste, showing them doing typical teenage girl drama before the crash. None of the modern-day sequences worked either, because all of them are having average adult lives. I'm halfway through the second episode, and so far the scene where nerd-girl turns out to be a survival badass ordering everyone around has been the sole compelling scene in the show, and everything that isn't focused on the carnage is a huge bore.

I was really looking forward to Mean Girls X Battle Royale, but for anyone else who's seen the show, does it get better?

I don't know if it gets "better" if you are expecting a battle royale type thing. I think that it gets better and the adult stuff gets a lot less "normal" too. The first 3 episodes or so are very much setup.

But (having not seen the last episode yet so I could be wrong) they don't get to any of the cannibal stuff in this season. It's supposed to be several seasons so it might be a while til they get to it. There is a lot more stuff about the crash after the first couple episodes, but it's still probably 60/40 between the 90's stuff and present-day stuff.

I think it is a pretty good show. Did not find that it lived up to the hype, but it is enjoyable.

I'm reminded of when Stranger Things came out and everyone said it was great, but I quit watching because I hated the drama with the sister character and her boyfriend. I don't know why shows with great premises keep forcing in this shit.

"There's too much characterization. When do they start eating each other?" is an interesting complaint.

Also maybe I've just had a weird life, but I've had tons of dates that were worse than what adult-nerd had in episode 2. They played it off like "oh look how her PTSD has affected her ability to relate to people" but I've known women who were far more awkward than that.

I think this is just TV as a medium. I really wish there were more shows that focused on just one or two POVs.

The Witcher and Y The Last Man have great source material but I don't really like the show.

It's a great show, I'm loving both the 1996 and 2021 drama. If you just want to see girls eating each other, it won't be for you, but if your complaint is that their lives are "too normal," just keep watching- things get weird.

That wasn't PTSD, she's just always tried way too hard and been awkward.

My point was more than I've been on several dates so awful that her brand of awkwardness is actually really muted compared to what I've seen firsthand.
