People have very very strong opinions on this game. I know next to nothing about it. Whats the deal?

It would've been interesting if the writing and characters weren't completely fucked. The dialogue is just painful and the MC is probably one of the worst I have ever seen in gaming

How are you aware of opinions about a game without gaining any knowledge about it? Hearing said opinions should clue you in...

I like it in small doses. I don't want to play it but sometimes I randomly remember it and go watch a few videos. The characters really like to talk and some people don't like that.

It's the worst kind of mediocrity basically. Missed potential everywhere and nothing to make up for it.

When it launched the gameplay was really fucked. Attacks are sort of like Mario RPG minigame attacks except they're all orders of magnitude too long while not doing enough damage. I've heard thats since been adjusted but haven't seen it myself.

Besides that there's just a lot of clumsy writing. The main character is intended to be an annoying full of himself millennial that gets served but the execution leaves much to be desired at times, there's a character that can die because you didn't talk to them at a certain part of the game, and the game got controversy for how it included story inspiration from a real life event of a woman who died in mysterious circumstances after leaving an elevator. The creator was accused of using the mc Alex as a visual self insert while shipping himself with the dead lady.

The dialogue is long winded and sucks. Voice acting is cringe worthy. The characters are EXTREMELY unlikable. Combat is unsatisfying and takes forever. Lack of polish in every aspect pretty much. It feels very amateur and indie game development has gotten so competitive and polished that YIIK is left in the dust as pretty much a non-starter.

I played it on Gamepass. It was pretty fun and unique with a banger of a soundtrack.
