Okay, it's impractical in the sense that she's a big purple target. But superhero costumes aren't really practical with the exception of characters who wear all black. Even then, they'd need to have their face completely covered.

It doesn't make sense. They have to be the same person.
Not sure why you leap to this moronic strawman. Superboy (the original) is Superman as a kid. Same naming scheme where they're the same character. Someone could easily think the same of Batgirl and Batwoman if they didn't already know the difference.

The only problem I have with Batgirl, Batwoman, etc., is that Catwoman should be the best woman at fighting. She has the legacy thing going for her and cats are hella more athletic than bats.

There are dozens of martial arts movies with Cat in the title. The same can't be said for bats.

I don't really care about the costume or whatever. Seems maybe a bit bright is the "worst" I can say.

I figured she was in this adaptation.

I don't know if this is a CW show or a movie, but changes of this nature have been made. As far back as 1967 actually.

Because she's normally a white redhead. I don't like them changing characters for the sole purpose of "inclusiveness."

If you want a black superhero, use a black superhero. Or create a black superhero.

I'd be just as livid if they made T'Challa a white guy.

I feel like sometimes it barely matters. Idris Elba as Heimdall was phenomenal casting, but the thing about Heimdall is that he doesn't really strike most audiences as "iconic" for his original appearance in the comics. When characters are a bit lesser-known, it doesn't matter who plays them, but I feel like characters who are very well liked and have a distinct appearance that hasn't changed in decades should be cast to look like the artist's original vision of the character.

I have no issue with casting actors and actresses of different ethnicities, as long as it's not being done just for publicity and activist cred...but too much of the time that's exactly why it's being done. Especially in the context of comic books and their offshoots; they've kinda gone out of their way recently to fill out an inclusivity checklist with every new project, and even though it's not the end of the world, it's kind of an eye-rolling situation.

The next Gordon in the Pattinson-Batman movie is black (Jeffrey Wright), so there's a chance if this turns into a long-running franchise that his daughter will be black as well.

Ariel and Barbara are still red heads. Why don't you guys just say what you really mean and say "white?" Cause it's not the hair color you really care about lol I mean, you never complain about non-red heads as long as they're still white.

I mean, "Redhead" is an aesthetic that includes hair color but isn't only hair color. Dying your hair red doesn't actually make you a redhead (and yes, I know actresses dye their hair for a role all the time, and even Kirsten Dunst did it)...the thing is, by virtue of this casting, the characters are no longer natural redheads.

Now they're just girls/women who dyed their hair red. It's a different feeling, that's all.

lolife67 posted... you never complain about non-red heads as long as they're still white.

Also, kind of an odd conclusion to draw. I don't mind other hair colors/ethnicities/etc. but it does feel weirdly reductive when nobody seems to mind that redheaded characters are getting weirdly targeted and scrubbed out of film representation lately. Redheads are real people, you know? Don't they also deserve representation?

Regarding the race-swap, I get it. Sometimes, I would rather them simply use black characters, too. But on the other hand, despite an 80-year history, there are almost no black people in Batman comics. So, there's that.

So you'd put Kirsten Dunst in the same category for Spider-Man? Because most of the white red heads are also wearing wigs or using dye.

And red heads are still being represented. You do know that other ethnicities can have naturally red hair too, right?

While I understand this sentiment, it's not practical. Batman has a packed cast of characters as it is. The options here are to omit an existing character for the sake of introducing a new character to meet a diversity quota or giving an existing character a cosmetic change.

I'd much rather have a Black Mary Jane Watson or Selina Kyle than a "Michelle" or "Patience Phillips." I think DC made the right choice.

Cosplays are design to look nice. They are not designed with any practicality in mind. The actress is going to have to be running around and doing stunts in that thing, redesigning it to be functional is something a lot of super hero costumes in live action have gone through.
