Are you suggesting that the people that have been desperately trying to disagree with obvious facts for the last two years have resorted to making up their own facts so they can feel like something agrees with them?

This is literally from their Facebook page from yesterday lmao. Youre the desperate one who does extreme mental gymnastics when something doesnt fit your narrative.

And yet you provide no link, to say nothing of the folly of drawing any conclusions from one hospital's snapshot from a single day.

That image is exactly the same sort of image you linked here: An infographic produced by a hospital to show a breakdown of their current Covid cases. How is that any more "obviously bias[ed]" than yours?

There's no reason you couldn't have linked that, but it does indeed appear to be legitimate.

Of course, that's still a single data point, which means you can't draw any meaningful conclusions from it, but I will concede that neither you nor anyone outside of that hospital's administrative team fabricated that data.

This shows me that there's barely any difference between vaxxed and unvaxxed. With the vaxxed getting sick just slightly more.

yes, even if the vaccine overwhelmingly works - a singular snapshot can still show ineffectiveness by shear chance

edit: and for all we know there are 100 dead patients, since they are no longer 'hospitalized'

More people in the county where this hospital is are vaxed than unvaxed, so the numbers being slightly higher on that end make sense to some degree.

Ultimately, you can't really draw any conclusions from a one day snapshot.

Statistical analysis 101, folks. Also, even if the sample size were large enough to draw meaningful conclusions, you cannot reach the conclusion of "vaccinated people are more likely to get sick" from the data available. To do that, you need to compare these results to the percentage of the non-hospitalized population that has been vaccinated and identify a significant difference from what would be expected from a random sample.

Looks like they're sitting at around 58% vaccinated, which means those numbers actually line up pretty well with what you'd expect from the null hypothesis (that is, the vaccine does nothing). As you say, though, you can't conclude anything from one day's data.

I don't think my high school offered stats, though I did take calculus. I took first year stats in my fourth year of undergrad, though basic concepts like "n=1 is meaningless" were covered exhaustively in pretty much every science class I've ever had that discusses research methodology at all. That's also extremely intuitive: Absolutely nobody is going to roll a die once, get a 4, and conclude that the die in question is more likely to roll 4 than other numbers.

As new strains of the virus continue to proliferate, this is to be expected. This is the natural consequence of not shutting the virus down early on, and deliberately decreasing the efficacy of measures to stop it in order to score political points and make money from investments in relevant fields.

That's so strange. Isn't keeping people from needing to go to the hospital what the vaccine is for?

That's so strange. Isn't keeping people from needing to go to the hospital what the vaccine is for?

Let's use some hypothetical numbers for illustrative purposes:

-Unvaccinated people have a 15% chance of being hospitalized
-Vaccinated people have a 5% chance of being hospitalized

Now, let's do the math for 10%, 25%, 50%, and 75% vaccination rates to see what sort of distribution would be expected in hospitals, based on 10,000 randomly selected cases:

10% vaccination rate:
9000 unvaccinated cases * 15% = 1350 unvaccinated hospitalizations
1000 vaccinated cases * 5% = 50 vaccinated hospitalizations
3.5% of total hospitalizations are vaccinated

25% vaccination rate:
7500 unvaccinated cases * 15% = 1125 unvaccinated hospitalizations
2500 vaccinated cases * 5% = 125 vaccinated hospitalizations
8.3% of hospitalizations are vaccinated

50% vaccination rate:
5000 unvaccinated cases * 15% = 750 unvaccinated hospitalizations
5000 vaccinated cases * 5% = 250 vaccinated hospitalizations
25% of hospitalizations are vaccinated

75% vaccination rate:
2500 unvaccinated cases * 15% = 375 unvaccinated hospitalizations
7500 vaccinated cases * 5% = 375 vaccinated hospitalizations
50% of hospitalizations are vaccinated

As you can see, even with the vaccine reducing the risk of hospitalization by a factor of 3, the proportion of vaccinated people in hospitals increases as the vaccination rate of the general population increases. This doesn't mean the vaccine doesn't reduce the risk of hospitalization, it means that increasing your sample size while keeping the odds the same increases the number of success rolls ("success" in this case meaning hospitalization).

There's nothing strange about it. This is just basic math.
