We should be allies with Russia instead

Russian people will always have your back as long as you have theirs. They just need to chill the fuck out about how they feel about gay people. Hard to change hearts and minds if we are at war with them though

NATO isn't going to war. It's a question of invade/sanctions or not.

And here's hoping NATO keeps a stiff spine and gives Putin zero in concessions here. You say you want to forcefully take over a country with relatively few resources that will be a thorn in your side for the rest of time? Uh...OK. You do that. It sucks for Ukrainians, but we can't save them anyways.

Putin's sphere of influence crap is pretty meaningless at the point of a gun: it wins him political points in his country (apparently) but not much else.

As for the pandemic...I don't think that's either here or there regarding the whole thing.

I believe we'd like to, but Putin needs us to be enemies to give him someone to fight against.

Putin isn't Russia though, and he ain't always gonna be around, especially not when you consider his penchant for making mortal enemies around the globe

True, but he will still be around for a good while from the looks of it. And it's possible that whoever's next in line (a democratic transition appears unlikely) will be much the same.

The West would happily be allies, I think, and let NATO fade away...if that was something that Russia wanted. Maybe someday.
