Ok, the one and only small hint I will provide:

You can resolve every single color before putting in a single digit.

Yeah, CtC (particularly Simon) giving it a solve would be a dream come true/bucket list achievement for me.

Agreed. Mark has different strengths. Particularly with things like crosswords. But the division seems to be Mark = "fast workhorse, solve speed is goal", Simon = "Intelligent art appreciator, soaking up the puzzle's elegance is the goal."

And so as a setter, particularly how I like to make puzzles, I'd want a Simon solve.

Somebody solved it! Congrats to @KainWind ! And please DM me your venmo info.

I feel like you are very close, @Serious_Cat , and would be willing to send you some money too if you still solved it. I'll give some final hints:

  1. Which center cells (if any), can be the same?
  2. Where else can the digit in R5C5 go in the grid? I recommend you color based on this
  3. Keeping in mind the toroidal rule, what does the answer to 2 say about the possibilities for the digits in each other center square? Again I recommend you color.
Since we are in the home stretch you are welcome to post your answers/thought process in this topic.

Unless I'm mistaken, the cages and inequalities on the side contain one full set of the digits 1 - 9, the value in the center square exactly twice in the inequalities (one of those included in the full set of 1-9), and five additional repeated digits that are arbitrary at this point. I also have to go back and check if it's something I determined, but I was fairly convinced at one point that the two appearances of the center digit in those cells have to be in diagonal dominoes from one another.

Dang... I think you are going down a wrong path.

If you want to kinda approach the puzzle with fresh eyes and look at the 3 hints I just gave you can give it one last shot, you can.

Otherwise I'm worried you might be stuck on a hard path that won't solve.

I'll do a final sweetening of the hints:
The answer to the question in hint 1, was:
Because of the toroidal rule every single center cell sees every other center cell, thus they are all different digits.

So you want to start here:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/5/3/AACZqoAAC135.png

And then color all the possible locations for each color. (thinking about the other hints)

I keep looking at this thing and #1 can't unsee what I apparently overthought and #2 am really not sure how the toroidal rule works on a diagonal. For half a second, I thought I knew where one digit went, but realized it would have immediately been eliminated on the regular diagonal.

So I can help with this for now.

First just by diagonal and toroidal R2C2(blue) can see all of red:
https://i.imgur.com/Xp1XnZc.png

And just by diagonal and toroidal R2C5(blue) can see all of red:
https://i.imgur.com/umBwMtn.png

As you can see, for the corner center cells and side center cells the diagonal plus normal sudoku rules make it so no center cell can contain the same digit as any other center cell.

Proving this for the center cell is trivial and does not require toroidal rules.

Thus:
Step 1: All center cells are different digits and can be colored differently.

Thanks, yeah these are accurate.

What can help to visualize how toroidal rules work is imagining the grid cloned 8 times around the grid itself. Because that's effectively what happens, if you go off the right side you end up on the left, same for top/bottom and vice versa. So using this hopefully it's more clear why any center cell (blue) can see any others: (sees red from diagonal the other center cells because they are in the same row/column)
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/7/0/AACZqoAAC4qS.jpg

(Grey grid is just clones of the main grid to help visualize toroidal rules).

So once you know this you can go back to this initial coloring:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/5/3/AACZqoAAC135.png

Each color represents 1 of the 9 possible digits.

Next:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/7/1/AACZqoAAC4qT.png
So step 2 is to consider any given center cell and completely color everywhere in the grid that cell could be, let's consider the very center cell, that digit (R5C5 purple) could not appear anywhere in yellow because of the bishop's rule, it could not appear anywhere in green because of the knight's move rule, and could not appear anywhere in light blue due to normal sudoku rules.

Thus the only possible location the digit in R5C5 could appear in is without the purple highlighted parts.

Now there are 2 ways forward from here, the way I originally planned it requires you noticing:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/7/2/AACZqoAAC4qU.png

Because the digit in R5C5 can only appear in purple, that means it cannot appear in the blue ring above. And I think several sudoku people here like serious_cat could talk about the significance of that ring.

(I'll pause here for today to give people a chance to see if they can get it from here, otherwise I'll finish revealing it over the weekend)

Phistomefel's ring didn't get me very far, but I came to the same conclusion with this equivalent set:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/3/8/AAPWHiAAC4rW.jpg
The digit in the center square can only appear in columns 1, 2, 8 and 9 in rows 3, 4, 6 and 7 by either knight's move, diagonal, or plain sudoku rules. That requires the digit in the center square to be diagonally adjacent in those rows, thus eliminating the remaining possibilities left in the Phistomefel boxes. (Plus the additional row of red compared to blue means there's an extra complete set of digits 1-9 in the red squares in addition to the equivalent set.)
