Zorro is once again heading back to the CW as the young skewing network is rebooting the show with a FEMALE LEAD in mind!!

It comes from filmmaker, Robert Rodriguez and writer-director Rebecca Rodriguez.

The incarnation was developed at NBC during the 2020-21 cycle but has moved to the CW with a young Latinx who seeks vengeance for her fathers murder joins a secret society and adopts the persona of Zorro..

It was originally pitched in 2019 at a first look deal to CBS which had Sofia Vergara attached as executive producer but is no longer involved in the project

Rodriguez is currently serving as executive producer for Disney+ The Book of Boba Fett and is known for his series adaptation of From Dusk Till Dawn

It's been a while since I saw anything Zorro-related, but I'm pretty sure it succeeds or fails based on how cool the sword fights are. Hopefully whoever they cast in the lead role can do some stunt work.

It's stupid, but it's on CW so it'll die even if it gets past the pilot.

I don't see why it couldn't work, as long as the people making it know what they're doing.

The CW likely won't even exist much longer. Apparently they're looking to sell it off. They released the financial data recently and it showed they never turned a profit in the entire 14 years since it started. It's hemorrhaging money even more in recent years since it's gone all in on the woke bullshit. I can't believe it's taken them this long to realize nobody wants more of that trash. Maybe they'll be able to recoup a shred of their losses when this makes it to the DVD budget bin with Ghostbusters 2016, Queen & Slim, and all the other woke garbage that bombs horribly.

You are assuming the people who think 'lantinx' is acceptable know enough about the spanish language to know that.

Edit: Does anyone else find it ironic that the people who complain about things like cultural appropiration, erasure of local cultures, having a culture destroyed in favor of white colonizers, diversity, etc... Are all basically well-off middle/upper class people from the West Coast/New England who go around telling other nations and cultures how they should speak, how their culture should act to avoid being 'problematic', and trying to effectively enforce a cultural/linguistic/ideologial homogeneity upon the world which would leave basically only the superficial traits of a culture behind if actually enacted? I.E., they're complaining about themselves and the things that they're doing.

It's on the CW which means it's going to be one of the worst shows on TV.

Yes and even some woman. On the internet even more so. I really dislike the need some people have to change established characters for the sake of it rather than make new characters but I mean I'll just not bother watching if it doesn't appeal to me.

Is this based on Lady Zorro (who is an entirely different character from Zorro, just like Supergirl is an entirely different character from Superman) or are they gender swapping Zorro and leaving Lady Zorro in the dust?

Why can't they just create new female characters instead of doing discount versions of established male characters?

It was probably one of the most gratifying and least surprising revelations ever.

I wouldn't be surprised if they took Joan of Arc and made her a lesbian black woman fighting against both the EVIL COLONIAL ENGLISH as well as the PATRIARCHAL AND ELITIST French nobility while preaching a message suspiciously close to communism and implying God isn't real and she's actually winning/being such a leader because she's a strong, empowered, lesbian, african (african-French?), woman.

I.E. Ignoring basically everything about the actual character in favor of a superficial and shallow appeal to the far left that is not only extremely preachy but alienates anyone who was a fan prior.

Edit: I also want to point out the Fate franchise as well. It contains loads of historical and mythical characters and even did things like gender-flip King Arthur, but it not only didn't get preachy about it, it made it clear from the get-go that it's all about fun and focused heavily on the characters AS CHARACTERS. Which is why scenes like Alexander's final charge or Hercules protecting Illya WORK. Because they're character-driven and focused, not preachy or the like.

CW is the worst. Nothing against Zorro, but get an original idea for fucking once. It's like all they do is reboot old shows just to make the lead male character female, because I guess that's considered progressive to the zoomers they lazily pander to.

I mean, Smallville was alright at times (although that was more a WB legacy). And I liked Supernatural (although it had so many problems).

Wasn't Supernatural a CW show? It's a popular show that seems to be highly rated.

Yeah smallville had its moments, I could've sworn that was on a basic network like nbc or something.

The problem with Smallville was that it lasted too long. Like, there's only so much that can be done with the concept before you hit the problem of 'can we just make him Superman already?'

It was weird how it kept going after they moved him to Metropolis. I mean, the show was literally called "Smallville"

Riverdale Zorro will suck hard, even Twitter hates this reboot already. Maybe this should go back to the cutting room floor.
