Got I for Christmas from my sister. Out on the good face and all that, figured at least now I could get a personal experience with it.

Playing in PS5 and it feels as buggy as a normal very buggy game would be, which I iimagine is much better than it originally was.

25 hours so far. 11 crashes, 4 forced resets due to progression being prevented from a bug.

But ignoring all of that, what's really just stunning is how mediocre everything about the game is when it's going right.

Story is whatever. Characters are whatever shooting is passable at best. RPG elements range from underbaked to unnoticeable. Johhny sucks.

I know all of this is nothing new to most people, but I still feel like just how mid this game is was swallowed up by it releasing as a mess. It's almost like releasing broken did this game a favor, since it moved a lot of people to "get it when it's not broken* instead of" don't get is because it's not very good."

I'm astounded you're not waiting a couple months for the PS5 version to be released.

And everything here is wrong. Amazing.

I played it January of last year and was both surprised at how much I liked it and how little problem I had with bugs & glitches thankfully. It's a solid experience, the characters are great, the Johnny stuff especially gets really wild and honestly I do like the aesthetic experience of it all too.

I thought there was some decent characters /story stuff and the gameplay was pretty fun until I hit a point where I realized I was just completely broken overpowered. I could just explode peoples brains or something without even entering a building, it was absurd.

I considered it, but I didn't actually care about the game enough to set that "expectation". I figured I'd just go for it. There's also no reason not to assume that version won't release buggy as well and require additional months of waiting to play. This one is still busted over a year later afterall.

And Johnny does suck. The voice acting is a major part of it. I love Keanu, but this is just further evidence that actors aren't voice actors, and when you put them next to actual voice actors it's almost always going to be distractingly bad.

I have a friend who just played through it and agrees with the story and characters feeling inconsequential and in general feeling nothing for most characters in the game or the character you even play as. However he did like Johnny and the gameplay, although

He's just doing the Keanu thing. I'm sure it's exactly what they wanted out of him. It's a little off-putting at first but also like...have you rewatched The Matrix recently?

Regardless, if you don't like the characters it's safe to just drop it. They're the only truly exceptional part of the game, and it sounds like you're not getting the production value of it across either so there's even less of a reason to stick around.

Edit: Actually I lied, find and complete the "Sinnerman" series of quests and THEN there's nothing else exceptional about the game.

You wanna know the actual reason? It's a disc copy. I haven't bought a physical game in years. I'm playing through it all at once so I don't have to take it out and put it back in again

Just (re)watch the 10 hour Tim Rogers review and you'll have plenty of material to fuel your lies in less time! There's even a plot summary!
