Do you have a fear of needles?

51 y/o high flying Scottish Computer Video Games Developer, Stewart Gilray who was the CEO of Just Add Water has died of COVID-19 because he FEARED and hated getting NEEDLES which meant he couldn't get vaccinated because of it!!

He was hospitalized with the virus on December 20 and his condition worsened over the coming weeks as his grieving widow, Bec is urging the public who are worried about getting the jab to overcome their fears and get vaccinated.

The father of 2 described having covid as "horrendous" and wouldn't wish this on anyone as he's never felt this kind of sickness in his life as he urges everybody to get vaccinated and wear a mask to avoid the virus if you can

He was pictured on a ventilator while giving updates in his hospital bed stating he was not doing great and the amount of oxygen he needed was keeping him alive.

He was later put in an induced coma as his condition deteriorated rapidly where he died on January 6th

Tributes poured in for the game developer with american video game programmer John Romer tweeting "It's hard to believe he's gone" writing he was a good friend to him and was always there when he needed him.

Other game developers wrote their condolensces and for his work as CEO for a company he founded in in 2006

He developed remasters of the Oddworld Series and a video game adaptation for Doctor Who and Sniper Elite VR that released on several platforms including Playstation 4, XBOX One, Nintendo Switch and Oculus

I wouldn't call it a fear per se. I'm always worried that I'll instinctively jerk away from them, which makes me a bit tense during the initial sticking, and during a couple of the times I've given blood, I did get faint, but that's obviously not the same thing.

I use to run out of the doctors office screaming because I was afraid of needles, really the only cure for it was "manning up".

Shots dont bother me anymore but drawing blood still does a bit.

Having blood drawn always sucks because all but the absolute most skilled phlebotomists have difficulty hitting the vein in my arm, so they usually end up drawing blood from the back of my hand. (I want to strangle the ones who think they can go for the arm stick, miss the vein, then start digging with the needle. Fuck all of you who do that.)

But shots? Most nurses are good enough that I barely feel a thing.

Ive seen this live. Guy joked about being afraid of needles. We all thought he was just trying to be cute and flirt with the deliciously thicc nurse. But nope. As soon as he got his shot he fell forward hitting the wall. He was alright.

As for the gentleman that passed R.I.P.

Im not going to call him antivaxx or shit on him. He had a form of trauma. Youd think GameFAQers of all people would understand that.

I'm not going to dump on some guy I don't know: maybe he would have passed out and his life experience is different than mine.

But I am rather tired of the modern "if you don't want to do it you shouldn't have to do it" mindset that applies to most everything these days. Both the right and left abuse that one. In the past people wouldn't have admitted something like a fear of needles so easily because it's clearly self-harmful and a social problem in a pandemic. A critical reaction was likely. Now he's would have been much more likely to hear "good for you for not giving in". Tired of it.

Most masks aren't "to avoid the virus," they're to protect others from the spread.

Yes and no. On one hand, phobias are legitimate mental disorders, which can be very difficult and unpleasant to try to overcome. That should be respected, as much as is possible, and lumping such people in with anti-vaxxers does not give them that respect (though a great many anti-vaxxers are afraid, and as tempting as it is to berate them for being stupid, being sympathetic to their fears is probably going to be more productive).

On the other hand, the pandemic is a very serious issue, and if there were ever going to be a time to confront his fears, this was it. I'm quite certain this guy had the option to seek out the necessary resources to support him through such an effort (whether formal therapy or just friends/family to comfort and encourage him as needed), so holding him accountable for his decision not to is not unreasonable. I'm saying that from a place of considerable privilege, given that needles don't bother me in the slightest (I routinely stare right at them), but he nevertheless did have the option of trying to overcome his phobia.

Even if you had fear to the point of violently lashing out upon the poke, could you not opt for anesthesia to get the job done while youre out?

At any rate ^ is me as well.

Given i need to give myself multiple insulin injections a day, having a fear would be quite the issue. Its gotten loads easier than it was at the start but even after years i still hate the poking tthough.

You heard incorrectly, you can bring diabetes under control but there is no reversal or cure as of yet. I know because I have type 2 and have it currently under complete control with diet and medications.

Is adjl really claiming that a quote taken from a pro-vaccine scientist, the director of the CDC, during an interview urging people to get vaccinated since it may help to lessen symptoms, especially if you have comorbidities, while stating that the vaccine doesn't prevent transmission, is out of context?

A quote that is provided without context is out of context, yes. That is, after all, what "out of context" means. Shocking, I know.
