It had charming characters and great animation/direction, but the story was just decent aaaand a bit predictable, in a way. It's very straightforward but I appreciate the smaller stakes and lack of traditional action, it's nice. Animation-wise it's a little flat outside of the musical numbers and some neat bits with the house. But I'm personally just bored by Disney's house animation style. Loved that it doesnt really have a villain and is just about the personal struggles of the family. Encanto kind of flopped at getting me to care about the plot and main character. 2 of the songs were fantastic (We Dont Talk About Bruno and Pressure). I actually really really liked Dolores (Strongwoman) and wish the movie was about her personal conflict rather than Mirabel. I wonder if a little life experience helps in the appreciation of Surface Pressure? WDTAB is so catchy, and Surface Pressure has a strong solo performance and lots of range too. Bizarre to learn that Maribel is supposed to be the youngest child. Isabela reminds me of a youngest, but she's supposed to be the eldest. Luisa is the middle child, which makes sense but she's at least appreciated for what she can do, unlike Maribel. I don't have any siblings, so I'm just going off of birth order stereotypes.
