Realistically (lol comic book realism) speedsters should basically be totally unstoppable. They're boring af with their powers and have to purposefully be nerfed to have any actual chance of losing.

Maybe they could come off more vulnerable if they whine all the time about how they're not fast enough whenever something doesn't go their way.

Yeah. They're only effective when fighting other Speedsters. Flash trading blows with Zoom is cool. Flash not being able to keep up with a gorilla is dumb.

But then we get an oversaturation of speedsters and people start complaining that all the bad guys are just reskins of the good guy!

Mas y Menos from Teen Titans was an interesting take.

IIRC they only had super speed while holding hands or just general contact.

It's kind of the reason why Flash had to have a villain speedster for like 4 seasons.

I do like Captain Cold kind of being a foil for him though, since his powerset should directly nerf Flash's mobility.

It seems like the catch with most telepaths is that they're either glass cannons that need to be protected by their more physically strong teammates OR they're fucking crazy and just as dangerous to their teammates (and themselves) as they are to the bad guys.

Speed is my favorite superpower but it has to be handled REALLY delicately or it becomes really dumb.

If you're gonna make a main character a speedster then you should probably focus more on their personal life than their heroic exploits, and they'll need some heavy character flaws or life issues to balance out their abilities.

You CAN write really cool solutions for fights against speedsters though. Check out the finale of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean for a good example.

I feel like a character focused on traps and gadgets could probably be a good counter to a speedster since they wouldn't need to fight them directly.

It especially works since most speedsters aren't guys like Batman who carefully assess their surroundings before entering a situation.

It doesn't matter if they set traps because someone like The Flash can move faster than light and vibrate their molecules through solid matter. They don't need to assess their surroundings because even if they don't see something they can get out of the way or turn it against the person who tried to use ti against them before anyone even realized what happened

The only way to make a speedster work is if they have to stop/slow right down to change directions. Instead of being able to turn on a dime and just keep going.

While this is true, they'd also have to see it coming. Which, yeah, they're speedsters lol. But it's not impossible to catch them off-guard if they aren't expecting an ambush.

Them getting fatigued/exhausted is a good weaknesses also. They can be worn down just like anyone else if the opponent has more endurance and a lot of durability.

I came up with a character that's kinda like a speedster but not really in a traditional sense.

He's able to throw objects (think throwing stars or knives) at a high velocity and use these objects as a "warp" point that he can go in and out of up until the point that their path stops.

The idea being that if you can see this object flying towards you, you can predict his path. But he's also able to warp out at any time as the object continues moving and he can also still warp out even if the trajectory changes for whatever reason (i.e., it ricochets or another smaller object is thrown into it and changes its path).

So there's a bit more strategy involved.

This is sooort of like Johnny Joestar's Tusk Act III in Steel Ball Run. It doesn't get utilized a huge amount but it's pretty awesome. It's one of the best manga ever so I always recommend checking it out.

Can he only come "out" along the path of the object, or could he, say, throw it to someone's right and move in from the side?

I love Steel Ball Run. Jojo is part of the reason why I like coming up with powersets that are a bit more creative.

He can come out from whatever direction. So yes, he'd be able to do that. Or, for example, throw it at someone and then warp out from behind the object.

I actually had another character who's basically an amped up Bullseye/Deadshot with a perfect understanding of angles to the point where it's basically instinctual. But his fighting style would be more gun-fu based and he'd be a lot wilder, usually firing off several bullets to cause them to ricochet in crazy ways. I always thought the two of them would make for a great pairing in a fight.

Yeah, Yo-Yo is the best speedster I've seen in terms of her power being balanced. More specifically, she can go super speed for the span of a single heartbeat, then she snaps back to where she started. So she can pretty effortlessly disarm a room full of goons, but heavier threats are going to figure out how she works and would be able to deal with it.

She also can't do some of the sillier shit speedsters usually do like vibrate through walls and shit.

I really hate it when speedsters get like, tripped or clotheslined or something

Like... their perception of time is relative to their speed. They would see you moving in slow motion putting your arm or leg or whatever up to stop them. The same way they, in other scenes, manage to move people out of danger or move up to bullets to change their trajectory etc

The flash is a very annoying show to watch at many points
