I like open-world games for the cliche reasons I guess: freedom to explore and stuff like that. It's all about that freedom and exploration!

No. Most of them are too empty and boring. Give me a solid streamlined story. I don't care about 100 hours of gameplay when 70 of it is collecting feathers.

Games like AC seem like they're only massive to squeeze as much playtime out as possible

I like open-world areas like Shenmue or Yakuza, it's not huge, but because of that it fully utilizes the small areas and they take their time making every little thing as detailed as possible.

Not really. I prefer linear plots with optional content.

If I enjoy the combat and the traversal, then sure. I dont really have a preference between open world and more streamlined area-to-area progression, but I do appreciate the attention to detail that smaller maps offer. That said, MGSV was mentioned for example, and the vast majority of that games environments dont need to be there at all, but I still played the shit out of it because it felt great.

Depends on the balance of good story content vs filler side objectives. Generally enjoyed HZD and Ghosts of Tsushima. Witcher 3 is of course amazing. I'm a bit burned out by the AC series.

Overall I think open world is a little overdone at this point, especially considering how they tend to feel empty a lot of the times.

if it has fast travel to the appointed mission, yeah

some games just wear me out travelling to the damn destination only to travel again to another point on the map

I love them.

What's not to love? Morrowind was like the closest we had to a reality simulator way back when. End of story

I like having the ability to approach things in my own way. You don't need an open world to do that, but it helps.

It depends on what the open world game is. I hated Phantom Pain, and FF15s open world was completely empty. Far Cry 3 though is one of my favorite games.

There's a time when I was really into it. Nowadays I'm more into arcade racers and 3rd person shooters but I still play open world. Recently finished blood dragon
