after a long time grinding casual games, collecting rewards, and tinkering with my blue green deck I finally started playing standard ranked

I lost the most games in bronze, won most of my games in silver and I took one or two win streaks through most of gold, started slowing down around platinum 3, had some ups and downs, still learning how to play against various decks

here's the current list



I opened Lier the other day and recently got to have a lot of fun in a game with Lier and Jadzi and a mountain of treasure from Old Gnawbone. My opponent conceded as I was about halfway through casting the rest of my library -_-

I'm really enjoying the process of gaining familiarity with the deck over time and just coming across new cards here and there

I want to have the dedication to scour the card pool and perfect it but at the same time, ehh

Honestly, the time I would be playing magic I mostly have been playing story book brawl

Got to Diamond last season, think I might try for Mythic this season, but Im only gonna get there with a meta deck, unfortunately.

Just lost a game because I clicked auto-pay without thinking when I had a stack of treasure but it chose to tap my 6/6 trample and my 11/11 because they were lands thanks to Ashaya

I swapped in 1x You Come to a River in place of an Emergent Sequence

Realized it's game winning with something like Body of Research on board and the extra removal helps against white decks

Does Mirrorhall Mimic work with Volo, Guide to Monsters?




It seems to me that since Volo checks creature types to see if he can copy when the spell is cast, and the Mimic only becomes a copy when it enters the battlefield, it should work. Volo copies the Mimic if you don't have another Spirit, and then both mimics get to copy something when they enter the battlefield.

When you cast it it's still only a Spirit; it doesn't take on characteristics of the copied creature until it resolves. And Volo triggers off things being cast. So yes, you end up with two Clones entering the battlefield.

I just got to do this for the first time and let me tell ya, it felt good because screw white weenies tbh

Went 2-1 at my prerelease today with a green/white humans deck. I half considered going Dimir since I had a lot of decent exploit cards but I realized I didn't have anything good to exploit. I think the humans deck ended up being a good idea.

Definitely have like crimson vow more than the last set, but the set certainly feels bomb heavy. Too many of these rares feel unbeatable

Vow draft seems fun so far. The archetype synergies seem stronger and more obvious at all rarities than usual, and the bombs are often synergistic as well

I don't know which are going to be strongest yet

Did extremely well with golgari big toughness combo. it stalled early game until I either drew the uncommon that lets you assign damage with toughness, or the one that lets you fling your 1/13 for 13 damage to the dome

Humans with counters/training seems very good, rakdos blood seems good but I haven't made it work yet, spirit enchantments seems good if you get the right rares and lifelink, werewolves seem good... everything feels fun so far

I'm still looking for a new standard deck and desperately hoping it's neither mono white nor izzet turns. Been stuck in diamond with bog standard mono green.

Gonna try out zombies maybe. Unrelated- The 4 mana flash zombie counterspell is nasty, plus it combos with the new cleave turns spell. The zombie that creates more zombie on non token death triggers just wants to be played

Friend of mine is going hard on some insane ramp decks that look fun- we'll see how it goes

I like Vow draft so far, but not as much as Midnight Hunt. Admittedly though Midnight Hunt was close to my favorite draft format since I started playing, though that only extends as far back as like M21 or something.

I think mono white and Epiphany are the 2 best decks in Standard right now. You can easily play other things however which mostly have bad Epiphany matchups but can compete with everything else. Various black midrange/control builds leaning on the Treasure early game and Blood on the Snow are decent; there's a few control builds that try to finish with Hullbreaker Horror instead of Alrund's; and there's various ramp shells that work to (G/W, G/U/B, G/U, G/W/U, etc). Mono-black aggro is also a really fun looking deck, and Rakdos Vampires also seems like it might be ok.

I was finally able to pull off Volo/Mirrorhall Mimic in Arena and it works as expected, so I was gonna get some more copies with wildcards. But now I'm wondering if it might be more consistent if I dropped the Volo/singleton big creatures element and just did Simic ramp to Mimic & Ulvenwald Oddity.

it's a bit disappointing that they buffed mono white in standard- i was hoping they'd open up the field a bit

I have a big problem with ranked decay. I saw the B/W control deck that won the standard tournament, so I imported it and started beating up on mono blue and mono green starter decks because I was bronze 4 from not playing constructed in months.

That just cant be a good feeling for my opponents

Honestly, nothing wrong with life gain as a style of deck, but the practical part where I have to sit and hear the +1/+1 counter sound 275 times per game is a major drag

Gaining life is no problem, it's sitting around while they spend five minutes per turn distributing counters that I find annoying

Crimson Vow has to be the worst fucking draft format I've ever played. If you don't open a bomb rare or mythic you may as well be pissing your time and money down the drain. How fucking stupid does wotc have to be to keep making draft formats like this? There is no fucking skill in vow draft. You get some bomb ass rares, you avoid those people, or you just fucking lose. This is a no skill, just open crazy shit draft format that I don't want to keep playing.

you get two points for a win and lose only one point for a loss below diamond- you shouldn't be beating up on newbies for very long

plus, the unranked queue is just as fun- if people don't want to play against good decks, they can always go there and be matched based on deck quality

anyway, i'm having decent fun with dimir zombies in standard. it's hot garbage but i'm ever so slowly climbing into mythic. someday i'm gong to crack and just play the damn mono white deck and win while hating myself

I'm a tick above halfway from Diamond 3 to 2. It's kind of funny how some wins come. Had a game yesterday where I was forced to mulligan to 5, but then my opponent who kept 7 and went first never found their third land and I won handily. Maybe I can just get a lucky streak and find my way into mythic >.>

Just drafted an awful deck, lol.

Love dropping 2 of these on a Rampaging Brontodon and swinging for like 64

I realized Varis didn't serve a great purpose any more so I swapped in a scutes swarm to see how that goes. It just helped me stabilize and come back against mono white so that I like.

Won my first 2 easily, feeling pretty great, then lost 3 in a row to white green decks that were all so finely tuned (and similar) that if the user name wasnt different Id have bet $100 was the same dude.

White/Green humans is pretty good. Lots of synergy with counters and trainings so you can snowball really quickly with it.

All three decks had cards on Turn 1 that comboed on Turns 2 and 3, and one of them played three Sigardas Imprisonment in a row. I had destruction for one of them, but they just cast it again.

Felt bad.

I've been trying Seth Manfield's Hullbreaker Horror deck and this is so much more rude of a card than I thought it would be from looking at it. Think I'm on the bandwagon now of this being the better wincon than Galvanic Iteration+Epiphany

Heres a lesson in hubris and reading the cards.

Incredibly close game, on opponents last turn, they said Good game, then played Halvar.

Waited a beat.

Then I saw them look at Halvar.

Then they let the timer run out until the forfeit, lol.

(They didnt realize Halvar only changes equipment thats already attached, lol)

In draft? Good to know. No one in my LGS ever drafts Selesnya.

That's because Selesnya has a (recent) history of being pretty awful in draft. Like in the last 3 cores and the Ravinca sets and a bunch others you'd be better off forcing anything else than taking even the best Selesnya stuff.
