I kinda like it, at least in terms of aesthetics. I'm sure the action scenes will be great. Casting is weird, but at least Tom Holland has experience playing a character like Drake.

I think it's his voice more than him that just feels off. In pictures or if I watch on mute I can buy him as Drake. But whenever he takes it just... isn't right.

He's 25 which isn't *that* young. Drake was 31 in the first game.

And yeah Wahlburg as Sully is way way way worse.

maybe its just because Im used to him playing a teenager, but Tom comes across as younger than he actually is. Game Drake seems like a dude who has been through some stuff, and Tom Holland just appears too young to have much adventuring experience.

To be fair, isnt this supposed to be like a prequel? In the games, Drake HAS already been through stuff, but if this is a prequel/origin, then its a Drake that hasnt actually been through much stuff.

Im fine with that the issue is that it doesnt seem to have been done well. It just looks poorly acted, scripted, and shot. The issue isnt that hes young its that there is no life in him. It also looks bad for a film that should have a lot of spectacle in it.

Really not into the Young Drake thing, and it's also jarring when they have Young Drake trying to emulate Uncharted Drake. I like Holland but and I'm sorry if my brain is typecasting but this looks like a highschooler in too deep movie.

I think completely changing the formula/identity of the game through a movie reboot is kind of interesting. This opens doors for an Uncharted 5/"New Uncharted" that's more interesting than Nolan North coming out of retirement or Drake's daughter doing the same old same old.

Die-hard UC fans would probably hate this, but I welcome a new game with Tom Holland Drake with no prior connection to the first four. It's the perfect chance to move the series from a 3rd person character action game filled with tonally dissonant mass murder to a different experience.

That looks alright as a movie but it didn't feel like I was looking at Nathan Drake or Sully

Actually, if I squint hard, it looks like a very young inexperienced baby Drake and an older more experienced Drake (but certainly not Sully old and experienced).

It's like watching Suits where I feel like I'm looking at young Jeff Winger and older more experienced Jeff Winger Jeff Winger.

if it hadn't been for that specific "falling out of the cargo plane" scene I would've had no idea this was supposed to be an Uncharted movie

Wahlberg as Sully is the worst casting since Kristen Wiig as Cheetah... which I realize was also very recent but it's giving me that same vibe of "this person only really knows how to play themselves and doesn't really even attempt the actual character they're adapting."

Holland could've worked. I don't mind young Drake, but this just feels like Peter Parker trying to be a little more serious? And I don't know if that's Holland having limited range or if that's what the producers actually told him to do, but either way it doesn't feel like it fits at all.

Holland has kinda said this himself about his performance - that he feels he tried to come off as "cool" that it kinda took over

If Cherry is an independent action film shot by directors who have more affinity with someone like Steven Soderbergh, then Uncharted has more in common with a Michael Bay action movie. It required more bulking up from Holland. It also required a little more cool. Not cool cool. Not Soderbergh. But cool, as in Holland had to stand looking cool. It was an experiment in vanity that left an odd taste in his mouth.

As soon as you start worrying about Do I look good in this shot? acting becomes something other than playing a character. I think there are elements of my performance in Uncharted where I kind of fell under that spell of being I want to look good now. I want this to be my cool moment. I had to play this very tough, very stoic guy basically be Mark Wahlberg. My character is supposed to be a fucking action hero in this moment! Look, I havent seen it, so I dont know if I succeeded in that. But it was an important lesson learned, because, at times, it was less about land a mark and go through this scene and more about land a mark, stand like this and see my bulging biceps... It was a mistake and is something that I will probably never do again.

Yep I would still prefer a full length version of that then what we are getting.

And you know they have gotten pretty good at that cgi de-aging.
