Worlds finest assassin is pretty alright so far. Nothing truly amazing but it's solid isekai for the time being.

I still can't tell if AMAIM will be good or not. So far it's not great but they have potential. They did at least acknowledge they would have to kill people most likely and a non drone enemy has appeared. Main character is still kinda boring too.

Dang, I finished up the game I was playing (far cry 6, it was ok) and theres still 6 days before srw 30. Might finally go back to ryza 2 or nioh 2. Also sad elden ring is delayed a month. Still pretty soon I guess.

Far cry 6 took me like a week, I just didn't mention I was playing it. And my health has been minorly better so I can actually play games a fair bit but still too sick to go and do anything so I can really end up burning through games pretty quickly. It's basically all I have to do aside from watch anime and youtube.

TIL: Helly has me ignored on one of his alts. How fucking weird is that? Almost as weird as him bringing up a sub-discussion that was kinda interesting.

Even though modern games are supposedly shorter and shorter, I'm not sure the last time I finished a modern game (not a retro throwback, and excluding things like fighters) in a single day, even when I used a good chunk of the day to play it (which I also don't really do any more).

I didn't grab all the collectables in this one. Got all the gear, did all the main missions, side missions, and all 3 of the special ops and cleared 1 insurgency. I think my file has like 65 hours but a fair amount of that I was afk so probably closer to like 40-50 hours. I freaking hate that they keep having moments (although not as bad as in 5) where you get captured in cutscenes and tortured while they give some james bond villain speech and then leave you to escape. I really hope they don't do that in 7. Far cry 3 is still the best but 6 was better than 5 at least. I think for me it's 3>2>primal>4>6>>>5. 2 probably wouldn't hold up to me now though.

Was bummed that 6 took away difficulties. I generally play far cry on the hardest difficulty and it's usually way more fun that way but this just has action mode which is basically normal so you can pretty much just air drop into the middle of an enemy base and gun everything down with minimal issues.

Managed to get back into Supernatural. Think Rowena's presence helped that. Should be around midway into s10. Hopefully I can stick with it and get through the rest of the stuff I've seen and make it to the last two seasons I haven't. Keep debating starting a new game, probably Ghost of Tsushima or God of War.

Started playing Legrand Legacy.

I got it for like $2, and for a game priced like that it's not bad at all.

It's deliberately evoking Ps1/early ps2 jrpgs. Both the good and bad aspects.

Also, they use Live2D to make their character portraits, and I can't help but imagine all the characters as vtubers.

Apparently Way of the Househusband also has a live-action series of instructional videos for shit like sharpening knives that takes a page from the anime. Why is this thing so popular? Or why is it popular enough to have that when it couldn't even afford a good animation production?

I wasn't much of a Rowena fan when she was first introduced -- between the thick accent, her mannerisms, and even appearance -- but she grows on you. I eventually even started to like Scottish accents.

Platinum end main characters are stupid. I'm betting that metropoliman will use the drone footage of everyones faces to narrow down the list of who might be a god candidate. If he's really ruthless he would just hunt down and kill everyone who showed up. I'm guessing he is immune to red arrows by already being under the effect of a red arrow. All the main characters have to do is nothing. Just ignore the angel powers and live life normally and theres no way they would be found out but no, they dumb.

Additionally, angel wings move faster than the human eye can see which means you could instakill anyone with just that, the white arrow is pointless. The second you see another candidate you can fly and slash them with a knife or something and they literally couldn't see it coming and react, they'd just die.

So far considering who this series is by, I'm pretty dang disappointed.

I'm sorta disappointed in this season which is odd because it has like 3 shows I'm really enjoying and then 2 more I like. It's just, the 3 I really enjoy are all sequels (world trigger, 86, mushoku tensei). Faraway paladin and finest assassin are both new and relatively enjoyable but not super amazing and I feel like everything else is kinda meh for me. I haven't checked out ranking of kings because the art style puts me off and the main character sounds lame and I can't find out what the show is actually about but perhaps that could be worth looking at. I really don't like the art though.

Been considering that game, thanks to multiple recommendations, but I also noticed that the Switch version of the Nintendo eShop has picked up Gleylancer, a side-scrolling shooter from the Genesis era that used to be popular in emulation. Makes me wonder if they will get Zero Wing, too.

Man, why can't there be a new episode of mushoku tensei everyday. Forever. It's so much better than all the other isekai. Every place they go to is interesting, every character they meet has something going on, every action scene is amazing, the main characters have depth and change along their journey in ways that make sense with the experiences they have.

I think eris's character growth is one of the most satisfying. From violent tsundere bitch to less violent tsundere bitch. Ok thats not entirely true. She is so bored and mean at home but once she gets to get out and see the world she is just full of wonder about everything the way I am watching it. She is fiercely loyal and protective of people she cares about and she handles so many things that suck and then two seconds later she is excited to see something new. Her worldview is continually challenged and she adapts and becomes a much better and more open minded person for it, becoming downright considerate.

And because they have a LONG story ahead of us they aren't afraid to take their time. Eris doesn't change over night and she clearly isn't done changing. Same with rudieus. Instead of going from scumbag creep to paragon of justice in one traumatic event his change is very gradual and believable.

Idk, all this is basic shit that every anime should be doing but they don't.

IIRC Mushoku Tensei was one of the first isekai of the current boom. There are just so many out there nowadays that it's hard not to think that some of them are just riding the wave for a quick buck.

Most isekai in the past decade revolve around an interesting premise that changes up the formula. Mushoku Tensei was early enough in modern isekai (approximately around the time of SAO's boom) to be the formula. It doesn't do anything unique, but it also doesn't necessarily rely on gimmicks like a lot of other isekai do.

I still prefer well-done gimmicky shit way more tho. Stuff like Yasei no Last Boss Arawareta, Tearmoon Empire (well, if you consider the mc being an absolute moron with ex+ luck to be a gimmick), all them manhwa that involve a little girl trying to be as cute as possible so her dad/brothers don't murder her, Protecting the Heroine's Older Brother, that virus isekai, I Shall Survive Using Potions, and all the interesting cultivation/isekai/gaming hybrids that are often seen in manhua (the most interesting of which was I'm An Evil God which wins the award for the most utterly meaningless title in the context of the story).

A lot of the gimmicks are really fun, tbh, and add a lot to the manga/anime. When the tropes are played too close to straight, I'm often not even interested enough to look into it (unless I really like the art).

Like ultimately, the main draw of isekai is still fantasy adventure and I feel like most authors forget that and regardless of what kind of thing it is, you still need good writing. The two good fantasy anime I've seen in the last few years is made in abyss and mushoku tensei, neither of which happens to be gimmicky, but I don't think adding a gimmick would ruin everything either, they just need to write characters and worlds well. Make ME want to be in that fantasy world and not just as an OP badass with a harem. Make me wish I could be there as a regular person.

Ehhhh.... idk. It's the largest piece of the genre, but fundamentally speaking, isekai is just a way of setting up and framing a story.

Well, MT is based on a LN series that came out around 10 years ago and I guess MiA started like 10 years ago, so they kinda predate a lot of the need to be gimmicky because the marketplace wasn't as crowded.

I love Saga of Tanya the Evil, but I wouldn't want to be in that fucking world. And it's a series that only really works as an isekai

I just finished Kara no Shoujo a couple of nights ago. Very weird, spooky, chilling. Great for Halloween. Not perfect but extremely memorable. Big step up from Cartagra. I'll bust out a review soon.

KnS1 is probably my most memorable ragequit in vns, because i remember getting a super duper delayed bad end because i didn't search a corpse at the school in the right way (i think there was a message down her throat?) and it led to just dying in a jail cell hours of reading later even after guessing the killer right

Yeah one of the biggest issues I had with KnS is that the investigation segments basically allot you a limited amount of clicks. Also, some things have to be clicked on two or three times before they cough up the proper results.

I don't think I've read any Key except for the quickies -- Harmonia and Planetarian. I'd like to finish Kanon and Air before tackling Clannad.

Far away from the list. Ok thats too harsh, overlord is decent, but it's not amazing IMO. I find basically every character that isn't the main character to be very annoying and like yeah, they made them that way, thats the joke, but after that joke we still have to endure with these characters. Re:zero borderline on the list but god do I not enjoy subaru even if he improves eventually and his love interest is not enjoyable either.

Thats like the one isekai thats not set in a fantasy world (and its good, I like tanya the evil) but for the other 99% where they basically don't need to be isekai but they just make it an isekai because that sells better than fantasy apparently, I'd like some world building that makes the place look wondrous. Isekai is to fantasy anime what incest is to porn most of the time.

It can both be very unsafe and appealing. I should at least have a significant desire to go there even if it's counteracted by lack of safety and modern convenience. Like the abyss in made in abyss. I'd never actually go there if it was a real place but it's cool and interesting and has amazing views and creatures and landscapes that can only exist in a giant super deep hole with ancient mysteries and bizarre but consistent ecology. When I watch that I want to see them get to the next area not just because the story will continue but because I'm super excited to see what the next area is like.

When I watch generic isekai anime #759 and they go to a bland desert town after the generic "beginner" town I'm not excited to see where they go next. I don't care where they go. I don't even really care that they are in a fantasy world. They aren't making use of the setting outside of things the main character can do (like use magic/swords). On the other hand when they go to the desert town in mushoku tensei I was literally awed. The song playing while they pan around the city packed with tiny details and inventive architecture and unique culture on full display and I just sat there thinking "wow, this is amazing".

Theres no reason that gimmick isekai can't have that. Spider isekai could have done that. They could have made each place truly interesting and alive, but they didn't. And it's not like not doing it makes it unwatchable but just seeing it done well makes me wish there were more like it because it's not a high bar to reach.

I'm not against gimmicks, I just want good world building, characters, and writing.

I might drop AMAIM. I want it to be good so badly but it's just not. The plot only moves forward because every character makes the dumbest choice possible at all times. I'm a long range sniper? Better rush in with a knife. Giant scary super powered mech? Better shoot it on foot with an assault rifle that does literally nothing to it. We beat the enemy and nearly entirely destroyed it? Better not finish it off so it can nearly kill us and escape in a minute or two.

And again the durability of the mechs makes no fucking sense. One second an attack is useless and just bounces off and the next scene the exact same attack just slices right through like butter. The enemy super claw just stabbed the main mechs head like 10 times and it did absolutely nothing whereas outside of that moment it rips through anything instantly.

The main character stopped being boring and instead became fucking annoying.

Like, the technical animation quality of the show is solid. It's well animated (but not choreographed) non cg mecha action. Even the choreography shows moments of being good. Sigh. maybe I'll give it one more episode but I'm really just setting myself up to be mad same time next week.

Evolution fruit continues to be watchable but not much else.

Man, nobody posting lately. Anyway, got SRW 30 and clearly I chose the wrong route because it's all super robots all the time. I hate super robot. My only real robot is the main characters mech so far. I chose the far east route cause I want code geass mechs but instead I get combattler, mazinger and brave police or whatever it's called and now I'm about to get gridman and every story has an annoying 5 year old they force to be relevant and have you fighting mechs that were probably from the 70s. I know code geass is in this game dammit.

Also I can't remember from the previous games but it's been like 3 straight tutorial missions to start with. Feel like I can't really play the game yet.

I watched a couple ecchi anime after finishing s10 of Supernatural. Watched Tejina senpai, which was alright, but nothing great and Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka?, which was better than I was expecting except for the mc being a bit annoying. Been playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey. 4 was the newest one I'd played before this. Seems the games got a bit more rpg like, which is mildly annoying in some respects. Do like the game though and I feel like they did a great job with the water in both its looks and physics. I'm not super far into it yet and I'm level 14 right now iirc.

Not sure what I'm watching next. Either I hop back into Supernatural and start s11, or find something else and I'm leaning towards rewatching Dragon Maid and then watching s2. Been saving it, but it might be time.

I'm still debating whether to back the Kickstarter for the Dirty Pair dub before it ends on Sunday. It's a lot of money for one series and that money could be used for something else especially with Black Friday coming. But I do like having a hand in the creation and getting my name on it.

Haven't been watching anime, reading manga, etc. However, I wound up picking up a used Saber Lily figure (GSC's Pop-Up Parade) as part of a prize figure kick. To make some space, I removed my NECA SFIV Ken and, while testing the joints (because it looked like the right leg joint was loose), the left leg snapped off, so... that sucked.

If I didn't like the design so much (and I think it's the only Ken Masters collectible I have), I'd probably just chuck it. For now, it goes into "maybe I'll repair this" pile. The aftermarket isn't too crazy, but I just don't feel like buying one to replace it since it might be an issue with the line as a whole.

I'll probably start gaming a bit more next month. October has just been a little crazy.

It's going to bug me all the way to the (platinum) end that they won't use weapons other than arrows in platinum end. It's exactly as I predicted. All of these mind games and logic fall apart instantly the moment someone uses another weapon. Frankly the arrows suck as weapons. They have shit range, can be avoided with wings, take significant time to fire, are extremely visible, and have a cooldown of two seconds. Meanwhile, a gun, doesn't have any of those limitations and logically if you hold a rock in your hands with the wings, fly towards the person, let go of the rock, and then stop, the rock is still going at virtually light speed and will annihilate whatever is in the way.

Also find it odd that the handcuffs stopped the person from flying away. Those wings logically pack enough force to tear someone in half so during the handcuff part shouldn't they just have instantly lost an arm?

I also don't understand why only main girls angel is actually helping their candidate.

In video game news SRW 30 got better basically right after the point I'd complained about. Definitely a slow starter but now that I can go to different areas it's fairly fun although also very easy on hard, maybe I should have picked expert.

Went ahead watched the 3 eps of ranking of kings that are out. The art style ended up being more tolerable than I expected even if I don't like it and the story is not bad so far. Will keep watching.
