Which of the following reasons do you think destroyed the party?

48 y/o Annamie Paul, Canada's First Black Jewish Leader of a Federal Party has resigned from her party after a disastrous showing for the Greens in the last election of which were even overtaken by the far-right party, the People's Party of Canada!!

She stepped down because she couldn't bear to go through another fractious leadership review which was already formally launched as the party was eager to replace her.

She said the party is rampant with sexist and racist members who want her out because she's a person of colour

Paul was considered a "Moderate" candidate who wanted to move the party to the Centre and away from Socialist Policies of which she described her rival in Green Party Primary who wanted to move them far left and defeated him.

She said "I just asked myself whether this is something i wanted to continue, whether i was willing to put up with the attacks i knew would be coming"

Paul also lost handedly in her own district of which she failed to win and came in 4th in that riding which was won by a safe Liberal Seat by Marci Ien.

The party's popular vote was only 398,000 compared to the PPC that rose to 898,000. The party had a popular vote high of 1.1 million in 2019 when then popular leader, Elizabeth May lead the party to a history 3 seats in the house of commons but fell to 2 seas in this election.

Paul stood by comments from a Green Party staffer who posted anti-palestinian comments which angered her base as well.

As a result they lost 2 seats including one member, Jenica Atwin crossed floors to the Liberals after Paul's response to the Palestinian crisis attacks by Israel who was disgusted by her remarks. Atwin won her re-election as a Liberal..

They only won one extra seat in Ontario after a federal liberal candidate was disavowed by the party and it's expected that safe Liberal seat will go right back to the Liberals in the next election.

Paul also said she DIDN'T support mandatory VACCINATIONS for federal employees as she believed in "personal choice" and that people with actual exemptions should be protected if they can't received a vaccine.

For whatever reason they lost, the members have to find a new leader and whether the new leader will continue the course of staying moderate or moving back to the left will have to make that decision

Which of the reasons do you think destroyed the party?

People actually like the Green Party...? Aren't they a footnote at best in most places. Although reading through the article, her policies seem to be to blame, the Green Party is even more left than Democrats.

Most parties that have Democrat in their names, are rarely all that left. Usually no further than centre I think.

The Greens have never had a strong following, so I dont think any of those reasons are why they didnt have a strong following

So basically going for the anti-vax vote without going all in on it and lost to the people who did go all in on it.

Shortly before the election, the Green Party basically fell apart because they couldn't make up their mind whether they wanted to be right-wing or left-wing. What was left was heavily skewed toward the conservative side of things, but with the Conservative Party and PPC already taking those votes and the Green party's reputation for environmentalism (which is not a popular position among right-wing voters, especially given the extent to which Alberta dominates the Canadian conservative vote while relying heavily on very environmentally unsound oil), they fell completely flat. I'm not sure what to expect from the Greens moving forward, but if the leader is resigning over their dismal showing, it probably won't be this.

I voted Green back when Elizabeth May got in. She had the exact same experience as Annamie Paul in that they were both pro-Israel and ran into opposition within the party. That's what lost my vote, was Annamie's lack of humility in being able to acknowledge solidarity with Palestinians.

While I am 100% sure she experienced racism and sexism at every step in her career, many people claimed she used those claims as a shield. I have seen many people I don't trust making this claim, but I've also seen it from very respectable people. It unfortunately seems like she used these claims when any criticism arose.

It sucks that she chose to engage in a lot of identity politics and then not support people of a certain identity.

Also, I don't think the party is 'destroyed'. They've wavered in the polls in this way for a long time.

I just think they exist to dump votes into and remove seats from other parties at this point.
