Recency bias is to be expected in these things (although we probably have the opposite problem here lol), along with people just voting for what they recognize, so the results aren't surprising. Super Metroid getting knocked out by Apex Legends in the first round though... Yet Metroid Prime beat Hades (one of the current indie darlings) by the exact same margin. Other highlights: FFVII demolished by BotW in the first round. Super Mario 64 well beaten by Arkham City Symphony of the Night dismantled by Resident Evil 4 In the most one-sided matchups, God of War (2018) beat StarCraft 90/10 and The Witcher 3 beat Diablo II 85/15. Overwatch beaten by BioShoch too. Poor Blizzard (not). First, a game doesn't need to reinvent the wheel to be amazing. Full stop. All video games are the culmination of decades of innovation, and some take all that and fine tune it to a razors edge. Which is what I feel God of War does in so many ways. It folds everything awesome about video games around itself to create a complete package. What you define as revolutionary, others may not. This comes with the territory. But no matter what game you personally think "completely changed everything" I guarantee will be met with pure indignation and reduction to the point of breaking it down to pixels and 1's and 0's on the internet. No matter what you feel is revolutionary, gamers have a completely reductive way of thinking and will say the concepts or mechanics "were done before in __insert game here__" or simply respond with some no effort troll post like "lol" when you talk about what makes a game great. TheRadiant posted... lol Case in point. For me, in God Of War, the way the story is told through one continuous long take and Kratos' perspective is 100% "revolutionary" even though I hate the baggage that comes with that word. The introduction of this new Pantheon of God's and a new arc for Kratos, it's awesome. Ideas like having Mimir on your belt giving you lore and setting the stage through the whole game was brilliant. And then never leaving Kratos perspective gives you that sense of a super long, continuous journey. As well as making EVERYTHING else in the game so mysterious and interesting because you're only learning and seeing things through a brand new perspective. The way they rebooted this franchise with a whole new feel and identity while keeping everything that came before cannon was phenomenally well done. Personally, it was revolutionary in many ways, but I'm sure someone is itching to reduce it down to 1's and 0's. --- Like 90% of CE topics are the same way lol. I beat it, tried to start on side content for 100%, and couldn't force myself to slog through. Never had any desire to replay it. GTA5 was a similar experience, except I never got very far into it before I lost interest.
