If you own a next gen console, have you experienced controller drift?

I've bought my 3rd PS4 controller because my last three including the one that came with the console all experienced controller drift.

Is this problem prevalent among next gen controllers?

My controls don't drift... the deadzone just gets bigger and bigger over time

Remember when there was N64/Gamecube controls in McDonalds? 95% deadzone!

Nothing on my PS5 controller so far, but I mix it up with a black PS5 controller that I got in a deal.

Switch joycons are definitely drifting though.

I just experienced this on Saturday with Atari 2600 paddles. Had to take em apart and clean the contacts to get them to work properly.

Only controller drift I've seen since like... the n64 or a pc when you hold the sticks while initializing (oops) is only diablo 2 resurrected, ha. The movement is so sensetive on it that if I leave my ps5 controller alone and tilted a bit forward I'll start walking

First pair of Joycons drift occasionally, generally not catastrophically so. I believe my second pair is fine, but I rarely use those (in part because I don't want them to develop drift, which is kinda silly). Pro controller is fine.

I've had a third-party turbo controller do this on the ps2, which was a shame since I liked how that particular controller felt in my hands better than the default controller.

More recently, my Logitech controller will sometimes do this when playing a game on my laptop, though I'm unsure how much of that is the controller itself versus the computer being dumb. I will be playing fine, a disconnect and reconnect sound will play, and some of the time the character I am controlling will move slow, typically toward the screen. That is when I unplug the controller and plug it back in; then things return to normal until the next time the disconnect sound happens.

Alternatively, on games where I can save manually, the issue just stops on its own, without need to manually reset the connection, for a good while after the save is complete. Compare to something like FFXIV where I have to keep an eye on my character when the USB connection sounds begin, because I cannot save manually there and that controller drift can lead to my character walking off a ledge or into some deadly hazard.

And yet? This never seems to happen when my controller is just sitting idle somewhere; only when it is in my hands. So, again, I'm unsure how much of it is something in the controller's wiring, or how much is the computer looking at the 0s and 1s and proceeding to see apple pancakes until the code it is handling is reset.

Last console I experience this was the Gamecube, and that was the sticky holding the joystick a direction and will keep the input turning the console on.

I've noticed it a little bit on my 360 controller, but the thing has been in use for the last 10 years pretty much constantly. Although, it could also be a software thing because the only game I have noticed it on is Final Fantasy XV.

I've had three sets of Joycon. The first two were drifty, but the last set is about a year in without any drift.

The first two work decently. I just gotta spritz them with electrical contact cleaner like once a month.

It's not that silly to me. I got a Pro controller to use for my Switch Lite because I don't want the stupid thing to start drifting and I have to send the whole thing in to get fixed.

I'll use the D-Pad all the time for those games that'll allow it (older games, Disgea 5 lets you move around with either, etc).

For the Lite, that makes sense. Being built into the system makes drift much harder to resolve. For regular Joycons, though, I'm using ones that do drift while avoiding using ones that don't for the sake of making sure that I retain the option of using non-drifting ones in case I really need them some day. It's the controller equivalent of hoarding Elixirs.

What a shame that this is even necessary at all. I really don't see why Nintendo doesn't consider this to be a larger priority than OLED screens with the same faulty controls. It's not like it's only happened to 6 people, it's widespread.

The Switch standard controllers have terrible drift to the extent I think its a rather unforgivable issue with the system. You shouldnt need to buy an expensive Pro controller to make the system workand even then good luck enjoying multi-player games (Mario Kart) without buying new joycons every six months. I have two sets of joycons that don't work.

Ive never seen a DualShock drift.

I think the only controllers I've ever had it happen with are 360 controllers.

Most of the time, if a controller dies on me and needs to be replaced, it's because one of the A/B/X/Y (X/O//) buttons goes wonky.

Or because I'm playing a particularly hard game, and it ended with me flinging my controller across the room so hard it exploded (though I haven't really done that since the PS2 era).

if that's what it sounds like it is, then yes, my Xbox 360 controller that I use for PC has been starting to do that a lot lately. made it tricky to play platforming with recently. the top left of it has always had an odd issue with it, where the left bumper is ever so slightly harder to press, and will 'snap' occasionally if you move it a certain way. and it seems related to the analog up there which doesn't zero to the left properly. so, the left analog now really really tends to move left if you're not careful, and the right one will move any direction slightly if you don't have a large enough deadzone.

They've been using the same joystick design since the 360/ps3 iirc so technically all the joysticks can drift at some point. I've had drift on 360, ps4 and switch.
