This will be a review of seasons 1-2 so I do not know about 3 yet.

So this series follows the exploits of Karate Kid antagonist Johnny Lawrence, who lost a long time ago to the karate kid but is now reformed. He got in 1 little fight at the start of the series and ends up mentoring the kid he saved as his 1st student. Kobra Kai is reformed but you can still tell that it is kinda like a cult environment though. He rounds up all the misfits at school who get bullied on and he teaches them strength, but nothing else, so they end up getting confrontational and flashy without the ethics part to build character.

Against this reformed cult stands the karate kid, now the karate adult all these years later. You would think he is the hero of the series the way he tells it, but not so fast. He ends up grudge-holding and making some hotheaded mistakes that only serve to stoke conflict, and he abuses his power against Cobra Kai. For example he gets revenge on them by spreading rumors of a buyout of the strip mall the Cobras meet at, which doubles their rent but also hurts other businesses at the mall that get caught in the crossfire.

Karate Adult is also a real stickler for the rules and tries to make the reformed Johnny's life hard, like when K. Adult wants the lifetime ban on Cobra Kai to stay in place even though the dojo is reformed. Luckily the Cobras get out of their ban, come back and build up again to become a formidable force. In fact at the end of season 1 they become the new champs! This is a great redemption story and turnaround for Johnny, but also for the kids too who were once bullied, abused and written off as weak. Now everybody wants to be like them, but the power goes to their heads too. I am just saying there is not a clear cut good Karate Adult vs bad Cobra Club narrative, the writers try to balance both sides and show you the motivation behind both and where they went wrong.

With victory comes the return of Kreese, who ramps up their training even further and makes the Cobra Club more combative. This really sets up for some interesting tension, which builds up til it bursts into an all-out school brawl at the end and the stakes could not be higher. Or could they? In a power move, Kreese reasserts his place at the top of Cobra Kai and the top of the food chain. Johnny's reforms are gone and now it is no mercy. What will happen next? I can not wait to watch season 3.

I give this a 9/10.
