Yeah, for all everyone keep saying how the game is a "Smash-killer", the game lacks oomph and flare, and seems pretty soulless in comparison, especially not helped by the lack of voice-acting or any vocalizations from the Fighters at all.

the mechanics look really fun. but that is a p niche appeal. the average smash player does not care about mechanics, and the polish on this game is just kind of nonexistent

I dont think people actually think its a Smash killer as much as a better version of PS All Stars with rollback. Low bar, I know, but thats the impression Im getting.

This game does have creativity. Smash never had it where you can grab projectiles and even reflect them with regular moves. Which sucks since projectile spam is the meta.

This isn't a Smash killer just like Mortal Kombat wasn't a Street Fighter killer. It's just a (hopefully fun) alternative for when you feel like Smash but different.

I plan on getting it day 1 and hosting an invitational on CE.

Not really.

In Melee any character can reflect any projectile w/ a perfect shield. Falco lasers are good, but he has a bunch of other stuff that make him top tier. Zain, the best player in the world, uses Marth, who has no projectile. Hungrybox dominated the game for a couple years with Jigglypuff, who also has no projectile.

In Ultimate, projectiles are more powerful because you can't reflect them w/ a parry, but a lot of characters do have reflectors now, not just Fox/Falco. Some characters would be instant bottom tier if anyone could reflect projectiles w/ a parry though. There are some characters that are built on projectiles for sure (Pac Man, the Links, Belmonts, Olimar, Duck Hunt) but those characters hardly dominate the meta. #1 MKLeo just won a major with solo Byleth, who has a terrible projectile that Leo pretty much never uses. Tweek is #2 who uses Diddy Kong mostly, who has Banana, which is a projectile just like the Nickelodeon game, anyone can catch it when it is thrown.

This is my thought. Every character I've seen looks like they have the exact same moves. Spongebob is just swinging a net, Helga's swinging a book, and Danny's swinging green. I'm sure there are differences in mechanics, maybe even major ones, but that's not something I care about.

man this shit can be so annoying. ROB in particular is the absolute worst when it comes to a zoner having busted options like that, just not a huge fan of so many dishonest zoners in the game. i think Robin is the best designed "classic" zoner in this game. they're p cool

This is, in no way going to even be a blip on the radar compared to smash.

This is for 30 something adults with young kids to have a bit of a nostalgia trip and play a smash like game on their Xbox or PS4 with the fam.

On top of that, it just screams Bargin Bin by Xmas, where it will probably scoop up a ton of sales at 30 bucks a pop.

And yet, people have a resentment toward zoning and many characters in Smash. Which the game has some blame for as we can't properly counterplay any lagless projectiles or interact with them in any meaningful way. There's a reason other fighting games don't mind zoning as much.

Actually, people hate zoners in other fighters a lot too. You should see the hate I get for playing Saki, Morrigan, and Hilda in TvC, UMvC3, and BBTAG respectfully.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that people also tend to hate zoners in Smash because bigass disjointed hitboxes can be difficult to deal with in a game like that. Getting a pointy sword up the ass through a platform from Marth kinda sucks.

From what I see, zoners don't have nearly as much resentment, especially if balanced well and being able to deal with their projectiles (like actually getting rewarded for parrying for example).

But dont forget that not all zoners require projectiles. And of all archetypes, I think I can safely say that zoners are among the most hated, especially keep away ones like Morrigan.
