Which party do you want to win?

Those are probably the six most popular this year.

They're not the Progressive Conservatives - haven't been for almost 20 years now. The PCs merged with the Canadian Alliance to form the Conservative Party of Canada back in the early 2000s.

Hoping NDP, but that almost certainly won't happen, so I'll probably end up voting Liberal to try and keep the Conservatives out. I'm undecided, and should really look up some polling data

We do actually have a Communist candidate on our ballots most elections, but as fun as that is, that'd be a complete waste of a vote. There's just no chance of actually winning even one seat, let alone a significant voice in the government.

I already know my seat will be conservative, my hope is Ppc and Conservative split enough that either liberal or NDP take it. But thats like a 1% chance to happen.

That's also my hope, but the PPC isn't exactly the most popular and the liberals have to contend with much greater vote splitting, especially where a lot of left-leaning people are displeased with Trudeau and will vote NDP as a result.

I honestly don't know what to expect. Usually I have some kind of sense of just how disgruntled Conservatives are with a Liberal PM, but most of that unhappiness has taken the form of Covid denial for this election, and I can't keep up with that kind of idiocy for long before my brain outright melts and I've been largely avoiding it. So much of that has turned into PPC support as well, which further distorts my sense of how favoured the Conservatives are.

That seems the most likely outcome right now. That said, the Liberals have punched above their polling weight before, so it's not inconceivable they scrape out a majority.

I'll be interested to see how much of a spoiler effect the PPC has this election. They don't quite seem like the null-factor they were last time around.

I want a Liberal majority, but I'm predicting a Liberal minority.

It might even be a repeat of 2019 where the Liberals get a minority, but lost the popular vote to the Conservatives.

If the Conservatives end up getting a minority, I'll support a Liberal/NDP coalition. The NDP let it slip last election that they'd do that.

A Conservative majority seems very unlikely, but apparently Nova Scotia's provincial election last month gave a similar surprise.

A Conservative majority seems very unlikely, but apparently Nova Scotia's provincial election last month gave a similar surprise.

It honestly wasn't that surprising. NS (along with the rest of the Atlantic provinces) has had particularly strict Covid restrictions, which have generally done an excellent job of keeping the pandemic under control, but the side effect of that is that a whole lot of rural ridings have seen literally 0 cases and therefore have a really distorted sense of the risk. They blamed the Liberal government for the restrictions (since, in their eyes, the pandemic wasn't dangerous enough to warrant any sort of action), so when the election rolled around, they tried to get someone else in that they believed would get rid of them.

When Houston got elected, a substantial portion of the comments on articles talking about it amounted to "congratulations! Now lift the restrictions and fire Dr. Strang (the chief Medical Officer of Health for the province)!" He then proceeded to move forward with pretty much the same reopening strategy the Liberals were already enacting, surprising nobody that understands anything about the situation. He's also outright refusing to consider extending the rent control that was put in place for the pandemic and has appointed a commercial landlord as the housing minister, so the housing and homelessness crisis that's already pretty bad here is about to explode. But hey, at least these clueless yokels got to stick it to the Libs.

Glad I did, too, since I'm in mandatory quarantine now.

Is it election time for them?

Man, I don't even know. And they watched our election in the US like it was a fucking reality show because, let's be honest, that's what it was.

Every year that passes has me seriously wishing I was actually born in Canada. Between our politics, celebrity worship, Karens, and other idiots of the public (anti-vaxxers, flat-earthers, sycophants, etc.) -- I just... I'm embarrassed.

The strong showing in the Atlantic for the Conservatives is a good sign for them. This is going to be super close for the Liberalsat the very most. But the People's Party (lol) actually has cock blocked the Conservatives in a few ridings. This might continue and help the Liberals.

It's not that unusual for Canada to end up going the opposite way that the US does. Harper came in 2-3 years before Obama, then Trudeau took over a year before Trump. Flipping blue after Biden took office wouldn't surprise me.

Interestingly, that actually means the colours match, since we swap the blue/red colours compared to you guys.
