Although I am not quite done with the second game yet, it would just be safe to assume there will be unmarked spoilers for the entirety of both games in this topic, so if you haven't finished both games, I would stay away.

Just to reiterate (copy/paste) from the first topic:

Anyway, the main reason I'm doing a separate topic instead of just posting in the SELF topic like I normally would is that I plan to do line counts and time stats for these games, and I know some of the people who'd be interested in that don't follow that topic (to my knowledge). If you're not familiar with it, I played through the series a few years ago and kept track of how many lines of dialogue are in each case to see which case was the biggest in that regard, and then I played through again and personally timed how long each case was to see which one took me the most time to beat. I've saved all that info on Google Docs if you want to check them out.

Time stats: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qSdmjcbQjG_QPBFylHNgk7oVXRbsSjDetdO8w7Ygh8k

Line counts: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sBPDmATQERIv7R3VvvXx43DRJZNOwnSwmLkZhfWLqSc

So the plan here is for me to play through once and do line counts, and then immediately replay it to do time stats (since the goal is to time it based on just going straight through and not getting stuck anywhere along the way). I'll update the numbers each time I finish a case. Oh right, one "line" of dialogue is just one uninterrupted speech by the same character, regardless of the number of text boxes it takes.

I do intend to give my thoughts on the cases, the characters, and all that, too, but this is my primary motivator.

So here we go.

At least in Evie's case it seems that being a prison guard was a high paying job in 1900 England.

I'm assuming the pun for Barry Caidin is "barricading" but I enjoy how over the top his design is without him seeming too silly (aside from the handcuff cookies, I suppose)

the guillotine grandfather clock is aces though

fair enough, but I guess it balances out in the other direction because he hasn't been one in a decade while Ron had only been fired about a year before!

You know, they haven't made use of "Ryunosuke has a photographic memory" at all since G1-1. It's almost like how AJ teased you with thinking you'd get to "recreate" the crime scene in a way you haven't before in 4-1, and then it never came up again.

Hugh Boone (the alias of the one renting the room on Fresno Street) is also an alias used in the Holmes story, "The Man with the Twisted Lip." It features an actor who wears a disguise to work as a "professional" beggar, and he ends up making such good money off of it that he settles down and marries, but he never tells his family what he really does. This reference in the game is actually pretty close to the original story for a change, although the man's real name was not, in fact, Daley Vigil.

It makes you wonder just how substantial a raise Gregson got from Iris's stories if he could pay Daley enough to make it look like he still had his job for 10 years.

No, I know that was Vigil's name in the Japanese version. I imagine they would've kept it in the English version if that were the case. Hugh Boone's real name in the story was Neville St. Clair.

Kazuma's new prosecutor theme is a banger

Could just be recency bias but it's potentially a top 10 song in the series for me, both for the song itself and the change it represents in his character.

Yeah, it's almost like Takumi realized it was overdone in GAA1 and tried to scale it back. Or just due to the more serious nature of GAA2, he might have realized a silly cast of jurors just wouldn't fit the mood, so he used it more sparingly for G2-3 and just cast it aside for the finale.

Kinda like how in 3-5, they kick out the Judge's Brother on day 2 to bring back the original Judge.

speaking of the judge it's kind of weird to think that this is his last appearance and you don't even realize it the first time through, it's kind of an unceremonious end to his character

also this is my weird pipe dream Ace Attorney fantasy that will never happen but one of these days I'd love it if The Judge were the defendant for an epic case and you finally get to learn his name

you can even bring back his brother to be the judge for the case since conflict of interest certainly isn't a problem for this series

it would be kind of wild for English audiences for them to bring back an AAI2 character because I imagine most of the fanbase never actually played the fan translation

not that you would necessarily need that background to bring back Courtney, but they'd also have to give her an official localized name

The reveal that Gregson is a key member of the Reaper's actions is such a great moment.

Also, the series usually gets it right with names, but I'm not a huge fan of Asa Shinn. By the way, if Watson was one of her targets, wouldn't that mean that he was a defendant in a case prosecuted by van Zieks? Maybe they explain later why he was a target, but I forget at the moment if they do.

I don't think that had anything to do with the Reaper. My guess is that they used Shinn for the assassination exchange because Stronghart had been using her for a decade and trusted her to be able to get the job done.
