It's originally a German fairy tale, and traditionally, there weren't a lot of black people (especially royalty) running around in the medieval Holy Roman Empire.

Would depend on the time period, honestly.

Sure, N'awlins might be a "Chocolate City" today (as per Ray Nagin), but the farther back in time you go the more white people you're dealing with.

It's something like 70/30 black/white today, but about a hundred years ago it was pretty much the reverse of that. And segregation was a thing (with the upper class being almost exclusively white while most blacks were living in poverty), so you wouldn't be getting genteel Southern gentlemen and classy Southern belles hanging around with lower class black girls.

Though if you're worried about historical and geographical accuracy, the other problems you're going to run into are the fact that black royalty is going to be a rarity outside of Africa and its environs (especially in the early 1900s), and if you go the interracial relationship route you're going to end the story with a lynching (and worse) in the South of that era.

Then again, if you're watching Disney cartoons and looking for historical and geographical accuracy, you may be missing the point.

Well there wasn't widespread outrage when characters all over were being whitewashed for literal decades. I like how people act now like this was never a thing. The first outrage example I think of is Gods Of Egypt in 2016. Outrage culture is fairly recent.
