Same shit different year. Especially S models (even though they stopped using that naming convention) that are just based off last years design.

I doubt most keynote viewers can remember a major selling point in the iPhone 13 line, besides the usual minor upgrades (better camera / video / battery life / etc.)

Who would spend $1,000+ and camp out overnight outside an Apple Store for a minor improvement over last years models?

I was tempted to background the event, but I knew it would just be minor upgrades so I ultimately ended up skipping it in favor of just reading a few sites running the updates as news articles. I'm not sure what constitutes front page though. Maybe on tech oriented sites?

I feel like phones have reached their end-of-life as far as significant innovation. The most exciting thing going on is the Galaxy Fold but even that seems like a niche product.

Love learning about the new iPhones, but Im a Mac guy. Plus, I always trade in my previous iPhone, dont go for the pro model, so realistically it costs me a few hundred to upgrade, not a thousand. For a device i use every hour, every day, not bad.

What I dont get is every year it seems like the major focus of the new iPhones is how godly the camera is. Do people care that much? I think the cameras are decent enough at this point to cover the average persons needs and these crazy camera advances would only appear to more intermediate to professional photographer.

I'm mostly interested in seeing what's new because of their new processors every year. They're always the most advanced mobile processors on the market, and now the same technology is being put into Macs. To me it's interesting to see what to expect out of upcoming Macbooks.

Tet tip: dont buy a new phone every year.

Incremental upgrades from previous year aren't for you, they're for the people from 6-X era, people who buy each year are just a bonus, and also insane.

Even the cameras themselves that they're always touting are still underwhelming relative to what the leaders are doing (Huawei, Xiaomi, and even Samsung to an extent). Much larger sensor sizes, pixel binning and periscope telephoto sensors that have 5x-10x optical zoom standard.

You can argue that these new iPhone generations are highly iterative and "boring", but they're still a lot that Apple isn't doing. Even now, the big bad 13 Pro Max still doesn't have an always on display nor can it charge your AirPods on its back. I mean, the tech is out there.

Is it that old? I was just watching an episode of the Office and they were using flip phones. Time is scary... that was like yesterday.

13 years but yeah. It was spring 08 when it came out and I remember hearing about it. I had a flip from 04 that I used for over 10 years and didn't care much. But the 2000s had a bunch of different phone design experimentation until the iphone design became thee smartphone design.

never heard those brands before except for Samsung. And I dont necessarily need the features you claimed are missing.

That's fine, but other people might. For what Apple charges for their products, I think they should do better.

Lol, you always post the dumbest shit. Like last week when you recommended a new phone user he should buy a 4 year old refurbished iPhone X from 2017 over the SE. Like that made any sense and wasn't complete trash advice.

Even Samsung couldn't get wireless charging right and everything slides right off and falls off or doesn't work with cases. Completely useless in cars because the phone has to be 100% flat. It's been what? 4 generations now and no changes or fixes. I can't use it even when I need to. And if you use it at home, you're an idiot for putting wear on that instead of a $15 pad.

And AOD hurts the battery when it starts losing capacity in the 2nd year, because no matter how you look at it, you can't keep the screen on forever like that. I don't doubt Apple will bring it eventually, but it's still not a good thing.

It's your second comment that shows the ignorance. Apple is basically 2 generations ahead with their CPU/GPU at this point. But of course that means nothing and they're not trying hard enough and charging too much because they havent copied Samsung's sloppy feature.

It's the same with PCs. CPU and GPU is almost the first thing they talk about because it's the most important thing in longevity and power.

The pricing is fine, for their phones anyway. iOS is far more polished than Android with less issues, more optimisation etc. the value of the device isnt just what you see on the spec sheet
with something like a Samsung you get something more bleeding edge but in terms of performance its held back by android, and its more disposable than an apple device. You get far fewer usable years out of it

I mean, you're not completely wrong. Especially with the dumbass changes or removals Google has been implementing all this year.

But yeah, I wouldn't really say Samsung is bleeding edge anymore. Lots of the stuff they experimented with the past few years were removed from their newest stuff. Nowadays, they're winning with more RAM, but it's because Android sucks with RAM.

There's no real reason this is how my RAM usage looks on the S20 right now with 10 tabs open in Chrome and Spotify playing in the background.

people complaining that apple isn't copying whatever gimmick is in android devices rn and then complain if Apple does add them that android had it first

it's not out because it runs poorly, thats the real reason. Android OS sucks, iOS is supposed to be a refined user experience. Wireless charging is ass and results in more issues than it fixes, sorry to burst your bubbles. They were already looking into having your airpods charge from your phone and the result was it didn't work well, so that's why it's not there.

Inefficiency. Hundreds of random Android processes running in the background. I used the clean up option to bring it down to 6.4 GB.

Nah, Android is definitely the more powerful and versatile OS. For most people, iOS will more than meet their needs, but for power users, there's just stuff not possible on iOS. That's where it shines.

It's just that there's too much openness and inefficiency. Apps are not really optimized. Lots of rogue shit. That 'unnecessary' control Apple has will of course lead to a more efficient and polished experience. That's kinda the point.

Personally, I plan to get a 13 Pro Max since my XS Max is getting a little squirrely now. Starting to show its age a bit so might as well grab the new one.
