As much as people complain about union jobs taking 1% of a paycheck, plus a $20 fee each month, it certainly stops the sort of behavior in your story. A manager can't just go on a power trip one day because they're feeling butthurt about something in their personal life and want to take it out on somebody.
If I can thank Walmart for anything, it's that my experience at their deli was what gave me a pretty big wage boost at Smith's now, so having to pay extra fees for being in a union does not bother me one bit, lol.

About to start my next shift. The usual round of puking from anxiety is starting. Never worked a Sunday before but Im sure the post-church crowd is formidable.

Sundays are the worst. There's a big reason Wal-Mart used to pay associates $1+ more an hour for working Sundays.

Sure as shit didn't pay me an extra dollar. But on a related note, I applied for Costco while I was working there, and Costcos wages are insane. 15/16 CAD starting off, with 18/19 for Sundays and it can go all the way up to close to 30 dollars. In comparison, Wal-Mart promised me 13 starting off since I have experience, but only gave me 12.50, and that was after 3 years.

Yup they were the worst when I worked at the Casino as well.
Everyone is all rested up and ready to be annoying and needy.

Also, TC, I fully understand anxiety vomiting...believe me.
But you should understand that you are capable, and it's just Walmart, you probably outclass a huge portion of the staff there.
Do buy something for yourself when you get your first check, you earned it.

They did away with it like 15 years ago, but the ones who had it were grandfathered in until recently.

I did self check for most of today. It was very easy and engaging. Definitely my favorite thing so far.

Low Key let your supervisors see this.
With any luck, you might land there.

Ive been checking all day. Shift is over in an hour. The managers pulled me aside this morning and let me know that someone called the store telling them how nice I was and how carefully I packed all their groceries. So that felt good.

going to be that way too. I mean, there is something to be said that locally they pay between 11.50 and 12.50, but the Mcds inside the Wal-Mart pays 13.50.

Do you live near a bus stop? You should be able to ride the bus for 50 cents or so and most buses stop at walmarts in my city.
