Im at the orientation rn. Waiting for everything to be typed in for everyone in the class. Im a sales associate on the front end of the store. Hiring manager seems very nice. And everything seems very relaxed going by the workers coming and going out of the back area.

Don't get too worked up if people share horror stories here about working there. The company itself doesn't have a stellar reputation for treating employees well and I'm sure you're already aware but I'd go into it and just see how the experience is for yourself, as your mileage may vary. Good luck and congrats.

Even today with half self check out people don't use self-checkout to many errors and glitches and zero service.

i worked there like 3 or so years. but it was years ago and pay was pretty crap back then. i'm guessing they're more like $15 an hour now in most places or close to it. i worked 3pm-midnight unloading trucks in the back and then we'd bring the pallets to the floor for midnights to stock. did that like a year and then switched to day shift for IMS? or whatever the counters are called. we'd mostly count the inventory and then bin and get picks. pretty boring but it was a 7am-4pm shift. hour long lunch break was a bit too long tbh.

Not true at all. I always use the self checkout when they are available which they are easy to use and if there is a issue the associate watching them always comes up and helps in less than a minute. The people who have trouble are usually senile and old.

i see a lot getting used but mainly just people with like 10 items or less. if i get a cartful i'm going to a normal line. i hate those unlimited checkout ones. they really need to give like a 10% discount if you're using those. maybe 5% is more reasonable but it's still saving them from having more cashiers.

Even if they did he'd just be moved to another job with different responsibilities. Dunno why people assume automation always leads to mass layoffs. Usually it either makes your job much easier or frees you up for other task.

Kiosk machines are a example of this.

I worked at a sams a while ago.

They actually tended to promote from within the store and you could get a position in the store making ~50k pretty easy. As long as you started as a cashier and moved up to service desk, small business orders, or some other more specialized position, and then up again. Pretty quick too.

I worked there six months and had a couple raises and was running the tobacco section and starting to do small business orders and working with the inventory system. Another guy that started with me was at the service desk and doing membership when I left, and became assistant manager like a year later. If he moved up to manager he would be making ~120k.

If you werent an actual fuck up and showed up they were happy to have you and it was actually pretty nice all around. Way better than restaurant work.

Nope. Not on any of the CBLs. Dollar General was way, way more aggressive about anti-union garbage. They had several CBLs dedicated to the evils of unions.

I think you live in a warm-weather area...if true be somewhat thankful of that.
I saw that happening in the middle of the night during winter weather.
I generally felt bad for those involved.

When you say, cool, or do you mean, insanely cold with slush and inches of cold?
This is one reason I try to be courteous to those that are tasked to fetch the carts.
....Plus, now I guess, I see people being dumbasses with carts at my place, so there ya go!

I would say that sucks about the groceries, but I don't trust a lot of their stuff.
But I am sure a lot of people could use that. Kinda shitty of them...I assume the markup margin is tiny.
But ya, for some, just not having a making an extra stop after work is something in itself.

If it is 10% on most other things, that is something though. There have got to be other restrictions.

And ya a Bonus is always nice, particularly when you are starting a new job and probably could us the...well...I gotta say now....Shot in the arm.
((All joking aside, it's something))

Congrats on getting paper.

I worked at Walmart when I was in high school and for about a year after graduation. I'm sure every store is different and not managed exactly the same, but it was literally the worst experience of my life. The assistant managers talked to us like shit, customers are assholes who think you run the place if something isn't going their way, I had to run 2 departments, get carts when needed, and run registers if they were short handed. I went home sore exhausted every single day as a fucking teenager.

But that's just my experience. Stay open minded.

I can vouch for this. I did automotive for 3 years, just quit a couple weeks ago to start doing TA work.

It was hot, sometimes brutal physical work (maybe less so in a place where F-350s aren't seen as commuter vehicles). Oil changes are hot as fuck during the summer, and changing tires will wear you down.

All that aside, I'd still highly recommend it over being anywhere else in the store. TLE is generally seen as it's own thing that management (aside from those specifically over TLE) don't really mess with. It's one of the few places in the store where it's super easy to just step out for a smoke without anyone noticing lol

Plus I think they're the highest paid associates that aren't management
