Wow I was initially interested in this but I thought it looked kinda messy earlier this year. Glad I was wrong!

Also 2021 still has zero games with an average of 90+, but a cavalcade at 88/89!

Not surprising, Arkane Studios is a very good studio and I pretty much love the majority of their work.

I loved Dishonored 1 and 2 (never got around to Death of the Outsider or Prey), so I expected this game to be good. But from what we saw, I was expecting high 70s/low 80s.

Cool to see it being as high as it is.

This was one of the projected PS5 launch (window) titles that made me want to get a system by now. I guess I'll have to wait for the exclusivity period to run out because I'm not going to have the cash to make that happen for a while.

I was expecting 9s and 9.5s where's my prediction award

Seriously, even suffering from overshown syndrome, this game looks amazing and it's from a team with a high pedigree. Add it next to Returnal and R&C for games to pick up when I get a PS5.

Played about three and a half hours of single player and an hour of multiplayer.

Singleplayer is WAY slower than the trailers made it look. I was expecting it to get pretty frantic and, whilst it can do if you fudge stealth, it's much more like Dishonored than anything else. I could see it getting more and more run-n-gun as you get more used to the maps/routes/etc. and get more permanent weapons. Oh, and Colt is great. Julianna too. Both extremely likeable characters from the get-go.

The PVP is decent fun too. I can see the potential for a lot of shenanigans as people get more and more used to how people play. Though, I do feel super overpowered, especially killing early game Colts. The starting abilities of invisibility and masquerade are a potent combination, especially since you can kill Colt in one hit from behind with the machete. Though, you gotta kill Colt three times (potentially) and he only has to kill you once, so it balances out.

Wow I had no idea there's a mode where you can play as the girl and hunt people but I also haven't been following this game too hard.. That's pretty cool actually.

I liked the Dishonored games but this one wasn't really on my radar. These reviews making me reconsider!

Yeah, multiplayer kinda works like Dark Souls invasions. They don't kick in until you get a few hours into the story, but once they do, they happen periodically if you're in an area that meets the right conditions and there's a notication once you do. You can go offline, but the CPU will still invade you. There's only so many times you can get invaded per loop though and there's win conditions that don't involve killing Julianna too, so you have options. Plus each map is pretty big with lots of shortcuts and paths, especially if you invade someone far into the game, so actually finding the player can take a while.

I wasn't super interested in this game until the previews came out a few weeks back and listening to Greg and Blessing gush about it and go into more detail on how it works made me really interested. Unfortunately, funds are super tight right now so I'll have to wait a bit.

i was really interested in this but watching a bit of stream gameplay im very not interested

it just looks like a normal fps playthrough - I'm not sure what the loop aspect is really adding to things.

maybe there's more to see than i'm getting now htough

From what I understand it's basically a puzzle game with FPS elements. It's like Hitman and Majora's Mask had a baby. You gotta kill all of the targets in a day and you might only be able to do that by learning their schedules and messing up their routines so it's convenient for you.

I think the main difference between this game and Hitman is that your skills/gear improve and you get more tools/information each run.

The question for me is how many "answers" you have to the puzzle that the game creates. The good reviews make me think it's more than you'd probably expect for a game like this.

Yeah it's not a game you can learn a lot about from just watching a few mins of gameplay. Having someone explain everything helped me understand it and got me interested. But what he said^ about it being puzzly is what interests me the most.

Im pretty sure they said in interviews that theres only one correct solution to getting all of them in one day, but theres not a linear path to obtaining/learning all the things you need in order to reach that point

deathlooop's solid- i think i give it an 8.5, maybe a 9

i care about the two leads and i enjoy the mystery of unraveling what's going on. the controls start out a little frustrating, but once you unlock a couple of powers it opens up

it has fun puzzle elements, but most of the time the game holds your hand so tightly that you're better off just following the quest markers. you can always explore for more leads, but trying to solve any individual lead by going anywhere but the orange diamond is a mistake

hitman is better at being hitman, and majora's mask is better at being majora's mask, but i think deathloop is great as a hybrid of those games and (this is pretty much cheating) dishonored or bioshock infinite.

if anyone here remembers 2013, i have a vague suspicion that reviewers might have whiplash with deathloop in the same manner as they did with bioshock infinite. reviewers were hyping up infinite and throwing out 10/10s, and then 6 months later they were all acting like the game tricked them. this game deserves an 8.5 or 9, but i could see people going for clickbait titles next year dunking on deathloop

the low points of deathloop are that for the most part you can't interact with the ambient environment or NPCs in very many meaningful ways. you can create noises, hack turrets and cameras, put gumballs on the floor to trip people... and that's pretty much it. the standard enemy AI isn't amazing

on the other hand, all of the NPC's scripted events are cute and their banter has character, and finding new ways to get through the areas with different powers is fun and can make you feel clever

the pvp is great in my opinion. you can even semi-coop with your friend and cheese things out if you want

the game is absolutely fun, but i don't see any urgency for people to play the game RIGHT NOW. if you're a frugal gamer you can wait, if you're not i say go for it

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.
