I remember seeing the events on the news first thing in the morning.
And going home for lunch that day, and seeing more about it.
Even in Canada you could feel the dread in the air.

I was in pre-school so idk.

I was over at a friend's house. His mom hurried us upstairs, while she was watching the news.

I had just attempted suicide a few days before so it was very surreal. So much stress in my life at that point, and then 9/11 happened. Kinda refocused me a bit on a bigger picture.

I was home from school for lunch, and my mother came home and told us, then everyone was talking about it when I got back to school for the afternoon.

I had gotten back my final O-Level exam results and was waiting on acceptance from A-Level schools or college. Our acceptance letters were late and I was talking to one of my schoolmates on the phone about it when the news (CNN) started talking about a plane crash.

I woke up just after it happened and was lying in bed watching it on the news.

I had just woken up. I came downstairs and saw an airplane hit one of the towers on TV. I first thought, Either that guy wasnt paying attention or that was on purpose. Yep, it was on purpose.

I was watching the late news and about to turn in for the night (it was around 11pm where I was at the time) when breaking news came up. They cut to CNNs feed and one of the towers was smoking. More and more developed and CNN took over that TV station for something like 3 days straight

I was watching Good Morning America at home and saw them switch coverage to just before the second plane slammed into the south tower. Thats when my military training (served years earlier in the USAF) kicked in to where I realized, from the planes trajectory and speed, that it wasnt an accident. Afterwards came the news about the Pentagon being hit, followed by Shanksville, Pa. With all air traffic grounded, since nobody knew how many planes were in the air at the time, I had to pick up my husband, who traveled from customer to customer at the time, at a pre-arranged rendezvous spot and drive him home with my daughter in the back seat.

Tenth grade; I didn't find out about it until second period, but other people were already talking about it by then. We watched the news throughout second period (even though it was gym), and classwork kind of took a backseat for the rest of the day. My English teacher's son was a soldier who was killed at the Pentagon so she was out for a while.

Somehow twisting rumors got around town and there was a panic about a gas shortage. When I left work all gas stations were lined up for blocks.

Was 6 years old so presumably in school. Neither know nor care about any specifics of my school days beyond that.

I was on the road for work, and while I was driving I could see the smoke from the towers billowing up on the horizon. I assumed it was a local factory fire or something, until they started talking about it on the radio.

At which point I, like a lot of other people, started trying to call everyone I knew from NYC (and specifically from lower Manhattan - basically, people who would plausibly have been in/near the towers at the time, which included my girlfriend). Which of course was utterly pointless, because everyone doing it overloaded the phone networks so none of the calls were making it through anyway, which just made everyone worry more.

Eventually I managed to contact everyone I knew by later in the day (thankfully no one was involved), but I spent most of the day massively stressed until late afternoon or so.

I was 11 at the time, didn't find out about it until I got home from school (UK, so I assume this happened in the afternoon our time). All I remember is my sister running in to turn on the news, as she had heard about it, and then the next our English teacher bringing in a load of newspapers that were covering it.

I was 6.

Sitting in a second grade classroom on the reading rug. A bunch of kids kept getting pulled out of class, and eventually I was too.

I was in the Bronx, and remember a bunch of ambulances as we drove home.

I was in grade four.

I woke up that morning to my mom on the phone with my grandma. The TV was on, which was weird for the morning for us. I saw the smoke from one tower. The second plane hit while we were watching.

Before I left for school, the first tower collapsed. When I got to school, the second tower had also collapsed.

My teacher had a TV in the room all morning. He was super freaked out. He told us our lives would never be the same and that there was definitely going to be a war. He was right, but pretty heavy for a 4th grade kid to hear that.

I remember at recess that day, we were all freaked out about a war.

I was in the middle of my commute to my cell culture job when the first plane hit the north tower. I got to work just before 6am PST, just in time to watch the 2nd plane crash into the south tower. I was 23.

I was getting ready for classes, and my step-grandma knocked on the door and told me to turn on the news. Turned it on just in time to see the first building fall.

I was off from work (was a casual/temp clerk with USPS at the time) and I was driving my dad's truck because Mom's SUV was in the shop and Mom was borrowing my car. I didn't know anything about it until about 11 AM or noon when I turned on the radio, and there was a special report on, saying something about planes hitting the Twin Towers and the towers collapsing.

I learned what went on and I was a mixture of freaked out and angry.

Just starting science class. The teacher came in and gave a quick summary of what was going on, and asked us to catch up on it after class. Then it was class as usual.
