I just peeked at this game for the first time thinking

"The Rams already have a TD or the Bears already have a turnover"

One was right!

Barely going to be paying attention to this one for at least a long while though. What a probable clunker for a Sunday Night game.

I picked this to be a 17 point game, the highest spread of any game.

There were so many better options for Sunday Night than this game, which will have to convince me it's even worth watching. Good scheduling!

I didn't suicide it because I didn't want to waste the Rams week 1, but it was an easy lock. The Panthers had a good matchup and will never be usable again.

The Panthers shouldn't even be in consideration for any other week unless other teams take injuries.

Some talking heads think they're good for week 3, a game in which I'm leaning picking the other team.

This is a 4 to 5 win team where there isn't a single week I feel any confidence in their victory aside from this one.

Yeah Im not good enough in suicide leagues to plan like that week 1. I try to take the surest things early, see who emerges as good teams as the season progresses, and just hope other people go out by getting a bit too cute.

It never works but it at least lets me last longer than I would otherwise! Rams were the lock of the week and this is one of the easier games on their schedule imo so I just went for it.

When you're competing in the national pools with hundreds of thousands of entrants, you have to. In a pool like this, not really.

Just about everyone who got out of this week on not Bucs, 49ers, or Rams already has a slight advantage. The people who win leagues on that scale are almost always people who didn't use a single high quality team for the first 4-5 weeks.

The Panthers weren't a risk, though. I put a lock on them in the other league because they were a seriously easy pick. I picked them to win by 13 points, which was the third highest margin of the week. My other two locks? The teams I picked to win by 15 and 17.

The Texans, which tempted me, would have been a risk, and it's why I didn't use them.

The Jets might be the worst team in the NFL. The Panthers are ok to bad with a nasty schedule that has all their weakest opponents in road games except for week 1.

Luck is always a factor~ I had 5 14+ point favorites lined up for weeks 13-17 last year. 4 won in blowouts and the other got blown out.

Nothing you can do when it hits you.

Next week is legitimately bad though. Some will ride with WFT, and I'm tempted, but also think it's super dangerous. The Broncos are possible, but I think the Jags will play better next week. I also think the Broncos are by far the week 3 choice (and not Carolina, who reeks of suicide trap).

This means I likely will burn a better quality team on week 2 because the risk on everyone else seems to be too high.

what are you even talking about, top picks next week should be TB, GB and Cleveland. GB in particular I'd be very worried about taking any week besides next week after how they performed this week.

You just named 3 teams 33% of the country will try to avoid using unless they feel forced into it.

I expect WFT to have 8-10% of nationwide picks. I expect the Patriots to be similar. The Saints and Steelers will be in the 5-6% range. Cardinals and Broncos will also draw some nominal value, but the planners won't use the Broncos here and will save them for week 3.

Only way I'm touching any of the teams you name is if I feel the risk is too high everywhere else.

I won the board's suicide league twice doing basically this (Using my confidence in picking against certain teams more than picking good teams, granted), fwiw

But if you're playing a huge pool instead of just something like the ~70-100 people on this board and you're actually playing to win it/go perfect instead of just see how far you can go, some degree of planning is probably necessary.

I just took a look at them.

Browns aren't as bad here as I first thought. They're a very high quality pick. The only other weeks they're this high quality a pick are weeks 3 and 11, and week 3 is by far the best use of the Broncos. Their schedule isn't anyway near the cavalcade of softies it was last season.

A quick peek at week 11 shows a rather soft week with multiple viable options.

But wow week 12. Week 12 looks like death.

Yep, a meaningful percentage of the national pools will be people planning their every move. There are people who take this to levels I wouldn't even dream of approaching.

Yahoo requires 2 picks per week between weeks 14 and 18 this year. That means you have to correctly suicide pick 23 teams to survive the season.
