Board 8 > Any Yu-gi-oh! fan around here? Just a question about the new Switch game...

So in Japan we had the new Rush Duel game coming out for Switch. You can wonder around and duel people instead of having only menus and such. I am a big yugioh fan, I have played a lot of the official games on various consoles.

So what I want to say is. I don't consider Rush Duels true Yugioh. Yeah I know. But here is the thing. Yugioh is for around 20 years the same. 5 cards for monsters, 5 for spells/traps, one normal summon per turn, you know the stuff.

But Rush Duel throws all of these out of the window. And also no Synchros, XYZ, Pendulum, Link and such. Basically a really watered down version of the real game. Yeah it is something different. I get it. But they have to focus so much on that? I mean yugioh is the best selling TCG on the world. So no way people got bored of it.

I even watch the animes and I don't have a problem there. But also in the game it is the content too. Link Evolution had like 9000 cards. Tons of archetypes to work with. What will Rush Duel has? Are there even 1000 cards in there?

I don't know. I will buy it yeah but with regrets. So what you all think about it?

I haven't played a Rush Duel yet, but I've seen the cards and read up on the rules and it seems interesting honestly. Feels like it simplifies a lot of stuff the game has built up over the years. I can understand that compared to the previous rules it looks like they cut out a lot of content, but I personally see it as a way to bring things back to basics from a game that got overly complicated and to reset and get a fresh start.

Of course, it's up to personal taste in that regard. I'm sure a lot of people enjoyed the complexity of the game as it was. But sometimes less in more, you know? More cards doesn't necessarily make a game better (especially when so many cards were completely useless. Opening packs in Legacy of the Duelist was hilarious when you see so many cards that no one would ever use in any situation for any deck).

I mean considering Duel Links is a thing that a lot of people like, it makes sense. There are a ton of people that don't like what Yugioh has turned into with all the different kinds of summoning and combos that go on for stretches of time. So serving both sides of the Yugioh fandom doesn't seem like a bad thing to me, the Yugioh of today will still be a thing even with Speed and Rush Duels.
