though i really enjoyed the first 2 pixel remastered games
which is weird for ff2 because its the one ff game i outright dislike but maybe my opinion has softened over the years cause while its still nothing special i didnt completely hate it this time around

Honestly I really believe people are way too harsh on FF2, the growth system will usually work out for most people and the game isn't particularly hard so you can work out some poorly built characters. It's just different and people who played it after being used to more streamlined FF games just hate it a lot. It's far from perfect but it's nowhere near as bad as people say it is.

I actually bought a NES cart version of this game several months ago. I have a save file at the final dungeon. I rage quit and haven't went back to it.

I was juggling my items around trying to make room for loot. I junked my softs and forgot to buy some more. My sages got stoned at some point and I went to use a soft and they weren't there. I had an item that casts "exit" but it didn't work and I was too deep in the dungeon to backtrack ALL THE WAY back to the airship. A few hours of my life was wasted.

you lose a percentage of your job levels every time you switch jobs so if you want to try a new job you need to grind its job levels up to make it useful then if you want to go back to your previous job you will have to grind job levels just to get it back to how strong it once was

its irritating thankfully gone now

I imagine they'd release all the same time like 1-3 but I could obviously be wrong

It kind of makes sense to space them out a bit more. FF 4-6 are longer then 1-3 and a lot more popular.

FF2 did something similar. If you didn't use a skill after so many times in battle you could actually go down in ranks.

that was also changed in the remaster so stats do not go down in ff2
and HP is easier to gain since if you go a few battles without gaining hp the game will just give you an HP growth

I gotta say I'm really not liking these changes. When Sega remade Phantasy Star they gave you the option to leave the anachronistic difficulty just as it was.

It would have been nice if they had different options to choose when starting a new game. Remake mode or classic mode. Maybe different classic options you can toggle on or off

That was in the original, yeah? The 3D games only had a (max 9) battle cool down where your stats were reduced.

I noticed in a stream of the new version of 2, they show actual progress for stat growth in the victory stuff? That's a much appreciated quality of life addition. As is them making Gordon look like DIO.

They always have to tinker with that game beyond bug fixes, don't they. FF1 has so many ports and re-releases but SE always screws something up. I don't mind the fact that they added magic recovery items like Ethers and Elixers but I heard they are super cheap, like a few hundred Gil. Plus, you have unlimited inventory space now, so mages probably make most dungeon crawls a cakewalk.

I understand they leveling mechanics have changed a lot too so grinding is much less of an issue. Again, maybe these are good changes for casual players but why can't they leave a "Hard" or "Classic" difficulty mode?
