Do you think people who have information of someone committing a serious offense but doesn't come forward should be arrested?

62 y/o California Contractor, Glenn Allen Brooks was BETRAYED by one of his friends in a private church facebook group he was part of when he BRAGGED to them about attending the January 6th insurrection and sent texts and photos to the group as proof!!

That person sent the incriminating information to the FBI which landed him in jail.

Agents arrived at his home in Huntington Beach before 6am where 5 agents carried assault rifles and shields to get him

A member of his prayer group tipped off agents on January 30 as that person said he "boasted" about his participation in the riot and provided agents with the photos

They matched his appearance through pictures because of his "white beard" to surveillance footage where he went inside about an hour after members of Congress and VP Mike Pence were ordered to evacuate

He is the owner of Brooks Works Corps, a contracting firm that advertises kitchen remodeling and room additions on its websites and is now charged with entering a restricted building without lawful authoriting, engaging in disruptive conduct with the intent to impede the orderly conduct of government and uttering loud, threatening, abusive language with intent to disrupt session of Congress.

A member from that prayer group said someone had BETRAYED the privacy of the group by blowing the whistle as the mystery of who blew the whistle is unknown

Do you think people who have information of someone committing a serious crime but doesn't come forward should be arrested?

Aiding and abetting after the fact. Worse, when they prove in court that foreign funds went to the insurrectionists, it can be bumped up to providing material comfort to the enemy.

He'll get a slap on the wrist, they have been extremely lenient to the insurrectionists so far.

Not for nothing, but if you brag about committing a crime -- no matter what the crime is -- you generally have it coming. In fact, confessing to any crime on social media is fucking stupid.

*cue laugh track*

Considering that the crime for most has been trespassing, they've actually been treated far more harshly than normal, particularly since people who trespassed in state government buildings often weren't charged at all (and those who were generally got probation rather than jail time, something that only a very small number of Capitol rioters received)

Yeah, no. They are facing the same charges as actual protestors, when they should be facing the death penalty (which you still have for acts of treason) or at least 20+ years in federal prison for the crime of committing an insurrection with the aid of foreign actors.

Even the individuals who thought on a lark to go to DC to participate in the insurrection should be facing sedition charges; instead the court has been handing out probation, that's the definition of a slap on the wrist.

It pretty often has (particularly given in the case of actual terrorists like ISIS, the Taliban, etc, it's pretty fucking dangerous to snitch on them because even people who translate for the US government have been murdered by them), although it's weird to bring up terrorists in a discussion about rioters, but you do you.

CENSOR BYPASS POSTED...
They are facing the same charges as actual protestors,

First, they are actual protestors. Second, they're facing charges worse than most protestors. Some of the guys caught lighting fire to shit got off lighter than somebody on a criminal trespass charge

CENSOR BYPASS POSTED...
when they should be facing the death penalty (which you still have for acts of treason) or at least 20+ years in federal prison for the crime of committing an insurrection with the aid of foreign actors.

It's a little stunning when somebody posts something so divorce from reality that you wonder if they stumbled into our world from a parallel dimension. First off, no, they weren't working on behalf of foreign actors. And if you're making that claim, then most riots would fall under that same umbrella because foreign nations have attempting to sow unrest in the US since... well, before social media was a thing, but it got bigger after social media. Second, if they were trying to overthrow the government, they would have used those weapons they brought along. If you have guys with guns in the capitol building and the only gunshot comes from a capitol officer, that's not an "insurrection." And honestly, given how little damage was actually done, that was more peaceful than a lot of protests.

The Justice department have already linked a French national to monies used by the January 6th insurrectionists; thanks to US law where the right hand does not have to know what the left hand is doing, Main Justice could lay sedition and treason charges on individuals but has chosen not to thus far for fear of being accused of prosecutorial overreach.

I'm waiting to find out how involved (former Prime Minister) Stephen Harper and his International Democratic Union (far right think tank, devoted to an international unite the right movement) are in providing material support the 1/6 insurrectionists.
