Even with signed offer, it is just a never ending fucking headache, I hate reference checks and they want no less than 5 references.
I can't stand it. Last time I had to do this, I completely couldn't even get in touch with like half of the supervisors I tried, on LinkedIn or text message or anything. I can't understand why an offer would be contingent on contacting people you haven't spoken to in 5 years and getting them to vouch for you. It can be so unreliable. Such a pain in the ass. /rant ... Yeah 3 seems more normal and fortunately I have 2 personal friends that also so happened to be ex co workers

Agreed, its a pain in the ass. Accepted a job with the USDA and they had to do a background check. Its even more annoying when youre ex-military and so are most of your friends/references and we move a lot.
