I've been gone awhile, but the goal never changed: ensure Sheik (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) gets into the next Character Battle. This will take many nominations as well as perhaps out-nominating Princess Zelda. #DownB

No fifty-post explanation this time...just your friendly reminder that she's our biggest contest snub remaining and she's consistently one of the best characters in the Smash series.

First of all, nothing's intended to be funny about nominating Sheik. She ain't the only Amiibo I own because of the lulz.

To your philosophocal point though, here are two categories that blur together in my mind....

TEN EXISTING CHARACTERS WITH DIFFERENT COSTUMES, TYPES, AND EFFECTS:

Mariachi Raiden
Mr. L
Safer-Sephiroth
Super Sonic
Wolf Link

You and I agree Pliskin shouldn't make it in (though if you want to try out-nominating Solid Snake I support your right!) and we don't want duplicates overrunning our contests. I also think Sheik is different from these twenty other examples though.

1) Sheik convinced us she was someone else. Pliskin didn't.

2) Sheik made a better debut than anything Zelda did beforehand. Pliskin didn't ever outshine Snake.

3) Sheik has legitimate popularity outside of her original origin story. Pliskin doesn't.

4) Sheik is also more popular than Zelda in that outside source of popularity.

And then separately, look at all these other SSB characters who got into the contest right after being announced -- not even playable yet, just announced.

2007: 5 contest newcomers debuted from Brawls hype.
2013: 3 contest newcomers debuted from SSB4s hype.
2018: 3 contest newcomers debuted from Ultimates hype.

It appears the origins of these characters matter less here than if people are happy they are in Smash, and Sheik is a Smash-favorite. Pliskin ain't got that.

These two (and debatably Dark Link) are separate characters

Dark Pit has his own personality and was born from a mirror that creates the opposite of whoever looks into it

Dark Samus is the Metroid Prime who absorbed Samus' Phazon Suit.

I think Sheik clearly is her own separate character as treated by Nintendo. She doesn't transform from or into Zelda in smash anymore, and her character design is inspired by a non-Ocarina appearance. I think Tetra should be a different character too.

True -- Sheik is more tucked in and less bandaged-looking now with armpit belts and shinguards, yep. She has more dangly headwear now too with less of a torn look.
